Green Tea

Thanks to the very helpful advice on this forum I am aware of when to take my thyroid meds, although I have to say this can be challenging taking them twice a day away from other meds, food and caffeine!

I do drink decaffeinated green tea however and wondered if this is ok within an hour of taking my thyroid meds?

would really appreciate your thoughts

many thanks

I drink decaff coffee about an hour after T4 Levo, every day.

I believe the consistency is the thing, if you do it every day its your routine, your blood tests and absorption and dosage will reflect your routine.

If you swap and change then your dosage, your absorption will be erratic and blood tests will reflect this.

I can't drink green tea at all - makes me very jittery, are there other stimulants in it? I can't have anything boosty, got the constitution of a nervous racehorse, (I get all in a lather and then can't run my races).

Some members eat porridge or have milky tea with their Levo - I have a glass of water and go back to sleep for half an hour. Get up faff about for another half an hour and then have breakfast and usually coffee.

Interestingly before diagnosis decaff tea and coffee in the morning gave me hot flushes, that has all gone now since I'm optimised.

Hope that helps a bit 🌱🦋🌱

Hi and many thanks for your reply, very helpful and interesting, I’m fine with the morning dose as you say, often take that then go back to sleep (or when I go to the loo in the night!) But as I say the afternoons trying to fit everything else in etc., I do need a cup of something especially if meeting up with friends, I usually drink Tick Tock organic green rooibos that claims to be naturally caffeine free, I only learned recently that not all green tea is caffeine free, I’m not a fan of decaf coffee, but boy do I miss the real thing…………………. 😵‍💫

Onlymeandyou,

It's not just the caffeine but also the tannins that are the problem. However, green tea is very low or has non existent tannins, and drinking within an hour of taking Levo is fine.

Why aren't you drinking coffee?
