Green Tea & Tumeric

I’m wanting to start supplementing with the above due to the antioxidants and anti inflammatory benefits, and just wondered if anyone could recommend a suitable daily dose & brands preferably on Amazon in pill form? Thanks

Be careful with green tea if you are actually drinking it. I found a nice mild brand I liked and had a cup with breakfast a top up after breakfast a few cups throughout the day and ended up with terrible palpitations and shakes. I then read that Chinese people have one cup with a meal! When I stopped taking it things went back to normal. I would never have thought something as innocuous as green tea could be a problem.

Husband takes 500 mcg Future You turmeric a day it also contains 25mcg vitamin C, , he says it helps with his joints.

Thanks I’ve decided against green tea and just adding turmeric with black pepper and see how I go :)

Don't forget that you also need fat with the turmeric and black pepper or you won't absorb it properly

You must be very caffeine sensitive to have that reaction?

I drink a litre a day with no ill effect.

The Chinese often drink tea throughout the day. To avoid caffeine, the leaves are rinsed with hot water as icaffeine is water soluble, then the infused for a longer period, & reused at least once.

When people swap from black tea, there’s a tendency to make it as strong as builders’ tea which is not at all how it should be drunk for taste or health benefits. It should be pale in colour , & have no bitterness if it’s made with just boiling water. Less tea, longer infusion. Adding flowers such as rose buds or chrysanthemum or cherry blossom petals is nice, instead of or as well as lemon.

Think I must be. I don’t eat a lot of chocolate and drink decaf coffee and when I drink regular tea it’s either decaf or so weak a tea bag can last me a week!

Clearly I’m not a connoisseur of tea although saying that I do like very weak white tea. I have been known to drink a cup of boiling water when we have been camping - our camping cups tend to get a bit stained - hence I thought I’d been drinking my usual weak tea, other half kept saying I hadn’t drunk my tea - I kept saying I had - turned out I had drunk the water and it was the dry tea bag he was looking at.

I found a lovely mild green tea - no bitter taste at all which was why I took so much, I was just topping my first little tea pot up each time. Love the idea of adding rose buds etc.

I'm a tea lover, but rarely drink black tea unless I'm being polite.

Hot water with a slice of lemon is pleasant, & something I indulge in post-meds if it's too soon for tea.

Green tea, & also builders', is only bitter if cheap or too many leaves are used. Give the rinsing methd a try then you can appreciate the flavour & benefits without the caffeine. M&S sold a lovely white earl grey, but I think it's discontinued. Fortunately, I bought three tins which should last me until 2022. :)

Hi MissFG

I think what Fruitandnutcase has described about drinking green tea might be that it can lower your blood sugar, so be careful drinking it on an empty stomach as it can make you feel a bit nauseous and faint.

I would be very careful about supplementing green tea though, as there have been incidences of it causing liver damage - have a google and a read before you decide to go for it.

Do you have Hashi’s? I’ve been doing the AIP diet for a few months and have dropped my antibodies quite a bit through diet alone (even though I ate very healthily and clean beforehand!), might be worth considering 🤔

I’ve been paleo/Keto for some time which suits me. Now I’m quite stable I’m wanting to see what other supplements might help but am not going to take green tea based on research thank you :)

I have a large pot of weak green or white tea every morning, with lemon to enhance the catechin content. One large pinch to 500-600mls is good & leave to >10-15 minutes, then add more boiling water for a second infusion & drink when it’s cooled down. Less tea & a longer brewing time is better tasting. Tea bags are generally horrible, being floor sweepings, unless put them in at least a litre pot. A jar or box of good quality organic green tea is a good investment as it lasts for months. I carry Jasmine pearls in a pill box so I never have to drink tea bag. Three pearls to a mug, & infuse for 10-15 minutes, & they can be infused at least twice.

Turmeric is nice as golden milk in the evening. It can be bought in supermarkets, though I make my own with extra strength turmeric, coconut flour (as it’s best absorbed with fat), cinnamon & nutmeg, though ginger would be good if you like this. Add to whatever hot full fat milk you prefer. It’s beneficial to add black pepper as the piperine slows down the liver’s processing of turmeric to give greater benefit. I’m not so keen on the taste with pepper so eat more of this with my evening meal then drink golden milk after.

Better to drink the green tea (I like Clipper brand - cheap in Asda) and enjoy it, and make golden paste with turmeric - most so-called turmeric pills are just curcumin and don't contain all the benefits of actual turmeric.

LIVER DAMAGE with green tea, look it up.

I suppose that would depend on which plant was used to make the "green" tea. I have a friend from Thailand, and she grows her own lemongrass. She harvested huge bunches of it and gave to me to freeze. To make her special blend of tea, I boil a big pot of water, add a bunch of lemongrass, and one peeled turmeric root. Boil for a while and then drink. Her husband had bone cancer in his spine and she gave him this tea all year and the other day I saw him out pushing the lawn mower. healthline.com/health/food-...

Hi

Whilst I do have a tablet of turmeric ( puritans pride) My husband and I eat organic powder on just about anything. Say on an omelette or on my steamed veg but I have it with the best olive oil I can afford. It’s absorbed better. You can have organic turmeric tea as well.

I think he buys is from whole foods on line. We buy most organic things loose from them. Mixed spices, fenugreek , cinnamon , Himalayan pink salt etc.

They are really reasonable for Swanson products and have the best Vit d I’ve come across.

L glutathione is another great anti oxidant. Helps the mitachondrial function.

Yep I have to be careful with green tea too.

Good luck

My Turmeric tablets say "Turmeric (Curcumin)" on its label as it's title. The brand is Nature Made, I am not sure if you get that brand in the UK.

Under "Amount per capsule" it says:

"Turmeric (Curcuma long) Blend 500mg.

(Turmeric root powder 450 mg and standardized

Turmeric root extract 50 mg (Total Curcuminoids 475 mg))"

I take 1 tablet per day. Do give the golden paste with warm milk though, I found that very effective - a little bit of work though, that's why I went back to pills. I have found Turmeric in the green grocery section of the supermarket. It looks like deep orange ginger - but I am not sure how to process it into a powder or how to cook it.

Peel the root and throw into a pot of water along with a handful of fresh (or frozen) lemongrass. Boil until the tea is a pale tan color.

Thanks, that's one less of life's little mysteries to worry about.
