can’t get hold of Mercury Pharma

Does anyone on here who takes mercury pharma Levo only because of intolerance to other brands, happen to be able to tolerate another brand? I cannot get MP at the moment and cannot take Teva or Northstar, my pharmacist has said that she can’t get hold of them, apparently there’s none in the warehouse. I have just spent an hour phoning around other chemists in the area to no avail.

Ring around different pharmacies

We hear this all the time ….it’s usually rubbish. They just don’t want to order in specially

Try small independent pharmacies

Mercury Pharma customer care phone number

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Advanz customer care.  (02085889273).

What dose levothyroxine are you currently taking?

Northstar 25mcg is Teva

Northstar 50mcg and 100mcg are Accord

yes I have ring 17 pharmacies including independents, been on the phone for over an hour, I am just trying the hospital pharmacy but they’re not answering. My last box was Eltroxin and I didn’t feel any side effects. None of the stores I have spoken to have mentioned Advanz, they have given me a list what they have and mostly seem to have Accord so I may have to give them a try.

Accord and Mercury Pharma are most easily tolerated

Wockhardt also popular but only comes in 25mcg tablets

Teva is marmite brand. Many can’t tolerate….few find it by far the best

Yes I’m not good at all with Teva, don’t think Wockhardt was brilliant but I’ve got a sneaky feeling that Accord was ok, most of the pharmacies I’ve spoken to had that one in 100mcg which is good for me .

Have you tried Boots? My local Boots could get it last week. MP is the brand that suits me, and having different brands last year did not. I wish you joy and hope you manage to get some. Apparently Advanzpharma levothyroxine is the same as they also make MP. And I believe Eltroxin is too.  SlowDragon helvella Is this right, please? Thank you.

Advanz is the company

Yes …good point

Often pharmacy has Mercury Pharma listed as Advanz

And yes Mercury Pharma and Eltroxin are absolutely identical

Thank you very much. It seems my local pharmacy believes Eltroxin is more expensive? They have told me it seeds to be specified on my prescription before they will/can dispense it.

They get paid a fixed price by NHS for all brands

They make more profit if source cheaper brand (usually Teva)

Well, that's interesting..... profit above helping.

My medicines document lists all the UK products.

Some have been happy with Aristo which contain neither mannitol nor lactose - but only in 100 microgram tablets.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

yes thanks for that, I think Morrisons pharmacy mentioned that one to me, I need to get in the car and drive around, I’ll do that tomorrow. Such a nuisance as I’m off skiing on Saturday and didn’t want to feel rubbish while I’m away.

I’ve had the same problem and can no longer get Mercury (Greater Glasgow area). My local pharmacist has been extremely helpful but it isn’t in stock at any of his suppliers in spite of the manufacturer claiming it is. He says he’s having trouble getting all kinds of drugs at the moment and has to take anything he can get. Consequently I get a different brand every time I get my script - which he knows is not what I want.

have you managed to find one that suits you?

Our local branch of Boots still obtains and dispenses Mercury levo tablets, with the occasional appearance of Teva (25 mcg) and Wockhardt (25mcg). Up until now our Mercury supply has been still branded and boxed as such, although it us now often listed under the Advanz umbrella, which also produces the identical Eltroxin levo tablets.
