Hi guys.I was wondering of how much T3 does one thyroid gland need a day to be healty. We all know that she produces 6.25 mg T3 a day,and 80 % from T4 gets converted into T3 (healty thyroid gland produces 80-100mg T4) so that means 70.20 mg a day T3 ? Do i count the things right?

How much T3 does Healthy Thyroid Gland need a day
i assume you mean how much does the thyroid produce, not how much does it need . The thyroid doesn't need it , the body does .
As for 'how much it produces' ... the commonly qouted figure of 80% T4/ 20% T3 is only true for a very small % of people. It was taken from a study (PILO et al.) of only 14 people, and they all had very different levels of T3 production . 80/20 was just the average of them all.
real people actually have very varied rates of T3 production.
see this image of actual levels of 14 healthy people in the Pilo et al. study . For more information on this see Thyroid Patients Canada website and search for PILO thyroidpatients.ca/?s=PILO
That's fascinating. I wonder what sex these people are or what makes the difference? The variation is pretty large so I wonder how that works also for people that don't convert well.

conversion is discussed a bit more in this one

The question was because i was thinking if someone wants to do only T3 monotherapy (if he isnt good on Levo and T3+T4 how much is the full T3 replacement dose for the thyroid.Because only on T3 thyroid gland doesnt produce T4 anymore
as you can see from the above . and also in practice from people we see on here ..... people who take 'T3 only' need individual doses too feel well .
Some people on 'T3 only' use just 25mcg / day .....most take more than that ~ in the region of 60mcg ... but some need much higher doses.
As with everything 'thyroid' , the best dose for an individual can only be found by careful observation of symptom response & blood levels.
Devon ICB (used to be CCG) rations T3 patients to 10mcg a day. (Cost reasons I'm sure, hiding behind other 'arguments') Unbelievable. And 2 other ICBs I know of ration it to 20mcg a day.
My slant is 'would they ration diabetic patients to a 3rd or a 6th of the insulin they need?'
The consortium of thyroid organisations are fighting this hard.
