Solgar Hawthorn Berry Capsules ? Has anybody taken these ?

Does anybody take any of these capsules? I would really like to hear from people, as to how the capsules helped them and how they got on with them ?

I recently started to take the Solgar 484mg Berry Powder . They stopped my symptoms immediately. Ie:- Palpitations, (mostly in the night), occasional fast heart beat, and slightly high blood pressure.

however as soon as waking this morning I had very fast palpitations, faster than ever before !

so I’m going to stop them , as I feel they could be too strong for me ?

Could you please help ?

I have posted a few times about the benefit of these capsules. I have been taking them for about 5 months now. My BP started to raise when I found out that I had an ear tumour before my BP was fine. I take one with breakfast and another with tea. My BP is always steady and back to normal. In Germany these are prescribed by the GP's. They have been used for hundreds of years. Just take one to start off with.

Thanks Brightness, the Hawthorn tablets were effective and did do the required job of stopping the palpitations, and fast heart beat ( at the time). But after. 4 days on them I had the most vigorous and quite frightening palpitations . Nothing like the usual ones, which ease off after 1/2 hour.

Which make of Hawthorn berries do you take and what strength are they. It could be that the 484mg that I am taking is too much for me? I am a very sensitive person, and my adrenals and thyroid are low ish. I was taking Hawthorn Berry drops, but they are not so effective anymore.

C70rol,

I haven't tried these pills but have been amazed at how montmorency cherries has lowered my high BP, evidencing how powerful these natural substances can be.

There are known interactions with some other meds such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or propranolol so we need to be careful what we take them with. Are you on any other meds apart from thyroid hormone replacement?

Hi Radd, I use adrenal meds and the occasional small amount of Diazepam. Other than that I mostly look to homeopathy, which I’ve used for years!

I assume the Montmorency cherries is in a capsule form . I have used the liquid form , when I’ve needed a hot drink in the night to get back to sleep. But there again you have to use it sparingly. As it can colour your teeth and it’s high in sugar which is not good.

C70rol,

No, I have deliberately reduced all pill intake and so use the liquid form with the bottle dispenser. I agree it is high in sugar so usually have on on g/f porridge or with yogurt to slow the glucose spike. I have also tried the pomegranate which is equally as good and yummy 😁.

Given the initial great response you have felt to your Hawthorn berries, maybe just drop your dose? or switch to Montmorency Cherries?

oh, thanks for that info. As I have the montmorency cherries and also have g/f porridge, I could now try adding some cherry juice ! How much do you take?

Do you use a non dairy yogurt when adding the cherry juice to it? In what form is the Pomegranate? I’ve never seen it as a juice?

My Hawthorn capsule could be difficult to cut in half, but it is another option. I guess ? I have since read that a possible side effect for those capsules is palpitations., that’s not good if I’m taking it for palpitations. 😧, and it was recommended by a practitioner !

C70rol,

I don't know that Hawthorn Berries and Montmorency Cherries do exactly the same thing but if you wanted to try what I use then the liquid allows more portion control, and I use a dispenser pump.

I am not suggesting you supplement both as you've had an adverse reaction so must be mindful but out of interest this study shows when Hawthorn Berries, Montmorency Cherries and bromelain (from pineapples) are taken together there was reported improved endothelial function, BP, TAC (total antioxidant capacity) and oxygen utility capacity during exercise in humans.
