Previous research has shown that women are at a higher risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease than men.

A new study recently discovered that women who died from Alzheimer’s had a higher amount of a chemically-modified version of the protein complement C3 in their brains compared to men who died from the disease.

The researchers believe the drop in estrogen caused by menopause may leave women more vulnerable to this version of complement C3.

We just aren't intended to live as long as we do these day... if we could all just neatly pop off a little sooner it would save the suffering 😳

If you want to delve deeper into neuroscience on this topic, there’s a good book out by neuroscientist Dr Lisa Mosconi The XX Brain.

She has a Ted talk too possibly find it on YouTube.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I do hope we find a cure one day soon. Hope you dont mind me asking but do you avoid soy in your food and supplements and other phytoestrogens ?

I’ve never received any medical advice to do so, but after all my research, something all of us on TUK are familiar with, I avoid soy. As for the rest, most of the phytoestrogens are on my intolerance list although I still need my coffee in the morning.! I try to buy organic wherever possible.

Thank you for taking the time to answer and I wish you all the best in your journey.

I've avoided soy for years, since I used to get acne from drinking soya milk.

Years ago a female neurologist told me she would never use estrogen replacement because it will cause Alzheimer's disease.................

I've been on HRT since age 45. It really helped with PMS having even amounts of both estrogen and progesterone in my circulation. Got menopause at age 52. Now 65 years old and I have informed my GP that I never want to stop HRT. She's fine with that.

Going into retirement on December 31st. I can't believe I made it this far.

Wow....Really??!! Are you tempted to look her up and see if she is still functioning?

I know she's still around but she has not won the Nobel Prize.

She actually works with Alzheimer's! That's her specialty: dementia patients.

Never heard of vitamin K2 either...... which is needed for making myelin.
