Myo-inositol & anxiety

I stumbled on this article via the Thyroid Pharmacist Dr Isabel Wentz on the use of Myo-inositol for anxiety. I’m curious if anyone here has tried using it, & how was the outcome if so? What dosage and brand? Etc. Thanks in advance for your input!

rustyempire,

I was advised by a practitioner inositol is a good addition to take as we get older when things don’t work as well as they did 😁. I have half a small tea-spoonful sprinkled on my breakfast or in a smoothie to help previous blood sugar issues as it helps maintain insulin sensitivity. Women also take it for PCOS as restoring blood glucose issues helps balance hormones.

There are different forms and ‘myo’ is the most bioavailable. Generally if it states just inositol within the ingredients it is referring to this form. I haven’t heard it can improve anxiety but it doesn’t surprise me because although later disproven, practitioners often refer to it as part of the Vit B complex which are all partly responsible for a healthy nervous system.

You article looks great, offering much more interesting information so I’m off for a read. Thank you for posting.

hi rustyempire.

I've been using myo-inositol for a 3/4 months. I found out about Myo from Dr Andrew Huberman's YouTube video on sleep, which I've struggled with for years. youtube.com/watch?v=h2aWYjS...

I dissolve 5ml myo-inositol powder in 150ml water 30/60 minutes before bed. In addition I take my selenium tablet with the myo. Myo improves the take up of selenium. drhedberg.com/inositol-sele...

Just before nodding off, I take 2 capsules of magnesium threonate, 1 capsule of agigenin and 1 capsule of theonine, as recommended by Andrew Huberman, for sleep problems. This sleep stack works very well for me! I go to sleep immediately and go back to sleep again after waking in the night to use the loo. No tossing and turning, worrying about my kids, husband, my health etc.

Myo Inositol has definitely also helped my anxiety levels. (I also find glycine helpful for anxiety, though I don't take glycine all the time. )

I use Natures Best Myo-inositol powder.

I've included the information on improving sleep because I have found that getting decent sleep has helped me immensely, I feel good and therefore can cope better with thyroid issues. My hypothyroid/Hashimotos (thyroid nodules/cysts) is still an issue. I'm still taking Levothyroxin.

Good luck, I hope you manage to sort out your anxiety.

thank you for the in depth reply! I’ll be sure to watch the video attached. I haven’t heard of agigenin before, but already use L-theanine as it is supposed to have a calming effect. All the best, Rusty
