The levels on the within range for TSH are not correct in my opinion. I have been suffering for 3 days with headaches aches pains hips shoulders totally knackered chest pain etc etc. Had 2 panic attacks as so unwell and frightened. My last TSH was 3.38 while l was on 50micrograms levothyroxine. Haven't felt good for ages but continue to be told you are in normal range. 3 weeks ago started hrt as thought it must be that. Feeling absolutely terrible since 3 days ago. Ambulance came but just said not my heart and left. Told me see a doctor. I didn't want an ambulance but they insisted because of my symptoms. Today rang for blood test results now 4.46 TSH level thankfully above range! Dr now put me on 100 levothyroxine my gripe is the normal range is too high l think l should be about 1 to 2 TSH. Wasting ambulance time and not listening to patients when they are unwell is ridiculous. I should have had a blood test for TSH sooner apparently hrt can alter thyroid meds working!! Praying 100 levo will make me feel better as to whether l will go back on hrt l dont know as very confused with whole thing. I think l need 1 to 2 TSH level but baffled by normal range at surgeries.

That's a big jump, normally advice is to change dose by no more than 25mcg either way. Otherwise it can be a shock to the system. Make sure you take HRT if in tablet form, 4 hours away from Levo.

On levothyroxine bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

If TSH is over 2 then almost certainly under medicated

U.K. treatment and understanding of hypothyroidism is woefully inadequate

You will need to be proactive and make sure you get FULL Thyroid and vitamin testing done at least annually

Essential all four vitamins are at Good levels

you may find that’s too large an increase in levothyroxine in one go

Dose levothyroxine is usually only increased by 25mcg steps at a time

You were left too long on only starter dose levothyroxine

ideally always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Which brand of levothyroxine is 50mcg

Which brand of levothyroxine is 100mcg

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels tested recently

EXACTLY what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Take magnesium early evening or bedtime

MUST be at least 4 hours away from Levothyroxine

Vitamin D

Is this tablet?

Why are you taking magnesium oxide? As a laxative or to increase your magnesium levels? You should read these links :

naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

drjockers.com/best-magnesiu...

...

As for your ALT this might be of interest :

labtestsonline.org.uk/tests...

I've had high ALT in the past and I have discovered that lowering my sugar intake helps a lot. I once lowered my ALT from 42 to 18 in 8 months by reducing my carbs. (Top of range was 33.)

The levels on the within range for TSH are not correct in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more but doctors believe that TSH tells them everything they need to know about the thyroid - even though TSH is produced by the pituitary. Take a look at this link :

How low was vitamin D before you started taking 1000iu

How long have you been taking 1000iu vitamin D supplement

You need to retest vitamin D twice year when supplementing

1000iu may not be high enough dose

aiming for vitamin D at least over 80nmol

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

Come back with new post once you get result

Magnesium supplements

Calm vitality magnesium powder is cheap and easy to use. Can help improve constipation. Starting on low dose and increase until get desired effect. Too much can cause diarrhoea

Alternatively

Thorne magnesium capsules are mix of citrate and malate . Doesn’t change bowel habit. Large capsules…..but can tip powder out of capsules into cup of water

I cant understand after my late blood test why a doctor didn't say my results were too high. Print out sheet said l was in normal range as it went up to 4 something when my results were 3.38

If the GP wasn’t aware you were on levothyroxine they would just think this results was fine, as result was within range

Even if they did know you were on levothyroxine, majority of GP’s would not consider that too high…..unless patient was saying they felt unwell

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

ALWAYS Test thyroid levels early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Essential to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 when fine tuning to optimal dose.

NHS England Liothyronine guidelines July 2019

Test for Deficiency of any of the following: Vitamin B12, Folate,  Vitamin D, Iron

See page 13

1. Where symptoms of hypothyroidism persist despite optimal dosage with levothyroxine. (TSH 0.4-1.5mU/L)

You also need thyroid antibodies tested for autoimmune thyroid disease at next test if not been tested yet

As you up your levo your need for HRT will be increased at least to start with

Poppycat999 profile image
Poppycat999 in reply to TiggerMe

Oh l think the progesterone and oestrogen put my TSH levels up so l stopped it as l think the symptoms l have are all hypothyroidism rather than menopause. I'm not sure what to do? I'm so tired with headaches at night and aches in shoulders and hips. I've never had t3 checked as they dont seem to do it at my surgery. Thankyou very much for your response l didn't realise that

You'll likely want to stay on the HRT to find a good balance as they work together, now you'll have a higher amount of T4... you need a good level of progesterone to be able to convert T4 to T3
