Hello everyone, I was recently forced to have a thyroid blood test by new gp as haven't had one for two years on levo (75mg). Obviously they want to now cut back my levo, which is a minimal amount in any case. Results were:
TSH 0.02 miu/l. (0.27-4.2)
FT4 12.5 pmol/l. (12.0-22.0)
FT3. 4.4pmol/l. (3.1-6.8)
They do not know I have also been taking lio T3, 25mg, a day as well as the levo, for over a year. And thank god I do, as otherwise I wouldn't be able to function!
Quite surprised that my FT4 is so low, but maybe my thyroid is taking the natural course. I feel okay, but am now maybe thinking to increase Levo a bit.
The gp is now focusing on low TSH ofcourse! I think I should be able to ignore him for the winter at least - wants me to book an appointment to discuss. Really, how do they get away with this!
I take all the recommended vits, B12 is 656 ng/l (197-771), folate 5ug/l (bit low?).
So possibly folate and go to 100 on levo? I'm fine, I think, apart from no stomach acid and developing scalp psoriasis a few months ago. But much better than a few years ago when thyroid problems were all I thought about because it interfered with day to day life so much.

Thanks Slowdragon. Test was 10am, I usually take both T3 and T4 at 7.30am but skipped it that day until after the test. I was on Thornes Basic B for over a year but ran out 4 months ago, so nothing since - must have built up? Will take the Jarrows folate for a bit. I take D3 and K2 regularly, the 5000ui one, so should be good, although they didn't test. Magnesium every night. Should I take the foliate away from T3/T4?
Bit difficult to refuse - village surgery, and they aren't used to being questioned about their orders! I will continue going it alone and just hope to continue getting T4 from them.
Results are as expected considering you are medicating 25mcg T3 meds, and all meds taken 26 hours previous to blood drawn.
"I will continue going it alone and just hope to continue getting T4 from them".
You are already buying T3 so as pitiful as it is, if they withdrew your Levo you could easily obtain T4 by buying from abroad as its much cheaper. Goodness, the lengths we have to go to.
Beware if you totally self medicate and then have a hospital stay you end up having to sneak life saving medicine in in your wash bag. What has happened to our world!.
Folate definitely needs raising in line with VitB12, and try Betaine HCL with pepsin for low stomach acid ( as long as you don't have stomach ulcers or medicate PPi's).
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg
