50mcgs levo is really only a starter dose. Approx how much do you weigh in kilos? You are hypo and unfortunately your thyroid will never recover. You really need probably several dose increases.
Which brand of Levo are you taking? Some brands suit some people better than others.
Long term hypothyroidism causes vitamin deficiencies which in turn mean you can't use your thyroid hormone properly. Can you get your GP to test for ferritin, folate, B12 and D3? Post results here.
Thankyou for your reply. I was at one time upto 125 mg. But I felt overmedicated . I always ask for a brand other than Teva. My dr agrees and I will be having those checked in 6 weeks.
I’m not sure of my weight in kilos but it’s approx 11 stone. I think I tend to put everything down to the medication 😔
There is a calculation you can do to give you a ball park number of what dose you might* need.
Weight in kilos x 1.6
70 x 1.6 = 112
So your dose of 125mcgs Levo was probably corrrect and 50mcgs only at the moment isn't good.
Being hypo long term causes low stomach acid and so we can't get all the nutrients from foods that we should. Low nutrients can cause intolerance of thyroid hormones. Could you ask your GP to test the following levels: ferritin, folate, B12 and D3? When you have the results come back here and post them for people to comment.
If you have Hashi's you just need to take the correct amount of thyroid hormone according to blood tests and symptoms. Most people with Hashi's don't need an ultrasound scan of their thyroid that I am aware of.
