Thyroxine

Does anyone suffer with side effects of thyroxine like achy muscles, feeling weak and lightheaded in the mornings where I have to sit down. Wake up feeling anxious and sweating. The list goes on. Has anyone changed to the liquid thyroxine and felt any better. Doctors don’t want to know and just say there is no side effects. I am so frustrated and fed up suffering for the last 10 years.

For me those symptoms would mean that my dose was wrong ie hypo symptoms rather than thyroxine itself. I thought I had a problem with thyroxine and after years I cut down and all but stopped it. I made myself very ill. I now know that I was undermedicated and hypo and was a poor converter. I am now improving on levo and lio.

100% percent being under medicated. I had each one of those symptoms plus carpal tunnel, peripheral neuropathy, hoarse voice, vision problems, adrenal issues, and nutrient deficiencies. Best thing you can do is get your labs from the doctors. After 10 years of being on Levothyroxine I realized my treatment wasn't as optimal as it should be.

I am on 75. I did up it once to 100 and I went hyperthyroid so that didn’t help

Do you have some recent blood test results you could share? Ideally TSH, FT3, FT4 with their ranges. What are your vitamin B12, vitamin D, ferritin and folate like?

What lead to the conclusion you had “went hyperthyroid”? Was it perhaps a doctor trying to set your dose by TSH by any chance?

If you have a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, I don’t believe you could go hyperthyroid. Over-medicated, perhaps, but unless you’re quite slender even 100mcg isn’t a huge dose.

My TSH was 1.44 because it is in range the doctor refuses to check my T4 and 3. My vitamin D was low at 62. I am taking 2,000 a day. Haven’t had the others checked for a while but last time they were in range.

I had all the symptoms of being over.

I am 12 stone so not slender.

Yes, unfortunately many doctors won’t test FT3 and FT4, but it’s the “frees” that are actually the thyroid hormones and that give the best indication of what’s going on. It might be an idea to get a full check done privately to see the whole picture of what’s going on. Many of us here do this. Here’s some information on how to from the ThyroidUK site:

thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

I’m glad you’re working on your Vit D situation. But you need to make sure the other things I mentioned are not just “in range” but optimal. We need all of these things to enable our bodies to process thyroid hormones.

As others have suggested, some of us, myself included, are very sensitive to increases in thyroid meds. My theory is that our bodies have adapted so much to getting by on less that they’re thrown when they get more suddenly coming in, and I agree with the suggestions here to take things slowly and try a 12.5mcg increase.

How much levothyroxine are you on?

Have you had any recent blood test results? What were the results?

Pound to a penny, those aren’t side effects but symptoms of not being on the right amount of thyroid hormone.

I am on 75. My latest TSH level is 1.44. They won’t test for T4 or T3.

I’ve had ‘hyper’ symptoms when I tried to up my Levo dose, even ending up in A and E with palpitations. What I’ve learned is that I need to increase super slowly in x12,5mcg. I check my thyroid levels privately (as so many members do) and post results on the forum for advice, as many GPS only test T4.

If you feel hyper on 75mcg then I would suggest doing 12.5mcg increases either 3 days a week or you can do everyday. I took 88mcg for 10 years and there's no way I'd be able to function on 75mcg however 100mcg daily would have been too much. Also, you can buy one of those blood pressure monitors. If you're under medicated it may be causing hypo or hypertension which is causing the lightheaded feelings. All those are connected-thyroid, adrenals, cortisol, and blood pressure. If one is not optimal it's like a domino effect.

Yes I do, I don’t make any appointments in the morning, cause I never know how I will wake up. My last thyroid tests showed my levels were perfect so I don’t know what’s going on. I just started with a good multi vitiman so hoping that helps. Good luck!
