Hi, has anyone tried using sea kelp and did it have any affect on thyroid levels?

Kelp contains iodine and we shouldn't take iodine unless we test first to see if we are deficient, if so then iodine should be taken under the guidance of an experienced practitioner.
Iodine solution used to be used to treat overactive thyroid before the current radioactive iodine treatment so it can cause hypothyroidism or make hypothyroidism worse.
Do you have a diagnosed thyroid condition and take any medication it?
Hi SeasideSusie thanks for your advice I will avoid for now. I am just getting frustrated after a misdiagnosis in June and only getting my diagnosis recently I feel so poorly and have to look after a baby so finding it quite hard!
I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and am awaiting more blood tests results before the consultant will give me treatment.
Hi Banana4444
I've just found this information so thought I would post the link. It might be helpful to have a read; it does say best to avoid taking kelp if you have a thyroid disorder.

The subject of iodine does come up regularly on the forum.
Best wishes.
A VERY BAD IDEA. IODINE CAN SPIKE YOUR THYROID HORMONES AND YOUR GRAVES ANTIBODIES. THIS WOULD CAUSE YOU TO FEEL MUCH SICKER THAN YOU DO NOW. I SPEAK FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
Related: if a hypothyroid person has a CAT scan, how will the iodine IV solution used to make the imaging clear affect thyroid levels? I had a CAT scan in late August and no one could tell me what to expect with regard to thyroid levels and symptoms let alone what to do to manage symptoms, if any. I did go through a period of really feeling tired and unmotivated and weight gain. Anyone have experience with this?
