What is "normal" morning cortisol level. Don't know much about this so would appreciate advice

Hi again

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what the normal range for morning cortisol should be. I had mine checked in october last year and it was 324 just after 9am.

I dont know much about cortisol and everything i can find is about addisons disease and i clearly dont have that. I just feel that i am better in the evening than the morning. I have poor sleep and poor exercise tolerance and i get awful palpitations when stressed my heart doesn't race ever. I just get big heart beats. These are worse with reduced t3 (now back to 125/10 )

I feel the number is low. Advice or suggestions welcome.

First thing is to check the laboratory range of your result and where in this range you are. Generally speaking, anything below 300 would be conisdered low but it depends on the range and symptoms. Doing both morning blood cortisol and saliva cortisol test gives you a much better picture of overall cortisol. Have you read Paul Robisnon.s The Thyroid Patients Manual? It gives you all relevant info on all hormones.

Hi samaja.

Thank you for getting back to me. There was no range given for the result so i have no idea. I haven't read his book but I'll have a look at his website. Thanks for the siggestion. I never thought to look there.

Hi it is recommended to do 24-hr cortisol saliva test - shows the diurnal measurements. both my dr & myself suspected adrenal insufficiency. Last month I decided to start adding the celtic sea salt to my diet (w/o saliva test)and it has made a difference. A number of mos. back I, too, had low exercise tolerance & poooooor sleep along w/slow hear rate & hard thumps when exercising ( I swim laps). I decided my heart was struggling because of low thyroid hormones. I amped up meds(had extra stash of levo&lio @the time) and that was remedied. My labs looked good, but I didn't feel well. A few mos. after that, I switched to NDT and feel much better; not top notch, but huge improvement.

Hi terebol

Thanks for that. I might look into that. I started t3 a few months after that test. I definitely feel better. I meant to ask the dr at my last appointment but forgot! Thats exactly how i feel about my heart. I worry about it because i can see my rhr rising when i do consecutive days of exercise. I feel hungover in the mornings. Without the alcohol. Ive tried mentioning it to the gp and the first nhs endo i saw but neither interested!! I'll have a look at that test. I'm glad you are feeling better on ndt. I hope it continues.
