Is Temporomandibular joint dysfunction an issue with Hypothyroidism does anyone know? I've never knowingly suffered from it but since taking more Levo, I keep getting bouts of terribly sensitive teeth and pain in my jaw. Looks like TMJ from the description but obvs will check with the dentist/doc. Might be a relief to know it's a thing if anyone is aware?
Thanks all. And thanks generally actually: this site is an absolute Godsend when you're recently diagnosed and the NHS does nothing but throw meds at you.

One person on the forum cured (or reduced the severity of) their TMJ by supplementing with high-dose vitamin B12 even though her level wasn't actually bad.
I have no evidence to suggest this is real or common for anyone else.
TMJ is often connected with Hypermobility type of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, basically weak connective tissue/ligaments due to faulty collagen.
Getting vitamins optimal may also help. If you struggle with one type of folate then try a different one. Some people have to whats called 'pulse' folate. If it starts to make you feel bad then pause for a day or so then restart, repeat.
I am hypothyroid and have suffered badly with TMJ - to the point of having a wisdom tooth extracted to find that didn't solve the problem. I saw a facial specialist who recommended heat. I use one of those microwave lavendar sacks & apply to my jaw when I feel the pain. Over time that has solved the problem for me.
Thanks everyone..hearing all this wisdom has helped me out a lot both mentally and physically. I'm going to see a dentist to take their advice about all of it - and also ask my doc for some better pain relief. I had no idea this problem was associated and I wonder how many more are?! Perhaps I'm only at the start of this journey after all
