sub clinical hypothyroid

my latest results were slightly raised tsh and my free thyroxine is in low end of normal. My gp is lovely and prepared to throw everything at me to “sort me out”. I’ve had bad muscle pain and joint aches, low mood and weepy, fatigue+++ low motivation plus lots of other hypo symptoms plus no ovaries and early menopause so osteoporosis now with fractures at 58 so feel I need to do something to stave off decline

I came away with low dose amitryptaline hrt low dose, and thyroxine. I thought I’d try one at a time as I want to know what’s working. One amitryptaline and I was on the floor, blood pressure crash so I’ve stopped that.

started 50 mcg levothyroxine today and within an hour I feel a bit hyper. What should I expect? Is this normal? Does it settle? How would I know if it’s the right thing for me given I’m sub clinical even though they keep saying thyroid is failing and will give up eventually.

I’ve got so many issues it’s hard to know where to start, I’m in process of correcting multiple vitamin and mineral deficiencies plus diet and exercise and bone building drugs so I feel like a chemist shop as it is.

Which brand of levothyroxine is 50mcg?

Try cutting it in half tomorrow and take half in morning on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after

The other half…..try either late afternoon or bedtime

I’m taking Wockhardt? Was given 25 mcg tablets but had been advised on here to start at 50 as I was so poorly last time on 25 I gave up. So I’m taking 2 at a time. Take your point about splitting dose, will try tomorrow.

What are your most recent vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 results

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

As you have Hashimoto’s are you on strictly gluten free diet or dairy free diet

I supplement all of these year round now as they just fall away otherwise

I’m trying to get my ferritin up as I also need to take thyroxine but made me unwell as iron stores were low. They have increased a bit in last 3 months

My antibodies are normal so is it still Hashimoto? I have reduced gluten but not entirely eliminated

Have you tested both TPO and Thyroglobulin antibodies (TG)

NHS won’t test TG antibodies if TPO are negative

20% of Hashimoto's patients never have raised antibodies

Ferritin….keep working on improving to at least over 70

Vitamin D at least over 80nmol

I got tg and tpo tested privately and both low but have many symptoms. Will read the articles, I seem to test negative for lots of things like pernicious anaemia but my b12 only goes up with injections so I’m not absorbing it. Lots of autoimmune in family so I’m surprised I never get a result.

Hi

I know what you mean about amytriptyline, I was prescribed it a week ago as a migraine preventative at 10mg. I didn't really feel any better so upped it to 20mg then it made me feel so shaky. The GP I spoke to said some people feel tremors or shaky on it. I've now stopped it.

It's funny as I took it years ago for Fibromyalgia pain and sleep issues and it took a much higher dose than that and I don't ever remember feeling shaky before. Maybe we can't tolerate meds as well when we're older. If you wanted to try it you could always try 5mg or even 2.5 if you've got the 10mg ones and just build up slowly. Or split it morning and evening.

Just to say feeling low and weepy are classic hypothyroid symptoms. Hopefully if you can get the Levo into your system and maybe start feeling better your mood might well improve, without needing the Amytriptyline.

Not what you're looking for?
