I take mine at 7 am with a glass of water, I then have a cup of tea with milk about 5 mins later and have my breakfast half an hour to an hour later, does having a cup of tea with milk a few minutes after taking my meds affect the tablet?

In theory yes because of the calcium in the milk and also I think tea has an effect too (coffee certainly does). It may mean you don't absorb as much of the thyroxine as you would if you waited for half an hour or more before you had anything other than water.
However, consistency is the most important thing. As long as you always follow the same routine, your dose will get adjusted accordingly.
A problem would only arise if, for example, you were staying in a hotel and didn't have the tea (or anything else) until say an hour later when you went to the restaurant for breakfast. A change of routine for a day or two probably wouldn't matter, but a fortnights holiday might make quite a difference.
thank you redapple for your prompt reply, I will leave it a half an hour before having a cup of tea, i am not sane in the morning until i have had a cup of tea lol, thinks its an irish thing we live on cups of tea
Something that works for some people is to have the pill and water by your bed. Set an alarm to wake you an hour early, take your pill and then go back to sleep or at least doze until it's time to get up. Then you can have both tea and breakfast whenever you like
Updated on Jul 15 2010 9:19AM: BTW I'm a coffee person myself. Don't like tea at all. Interestingly, there's no Irish blood in my background... Scots, English, Welsh and a few others, but no Irish!
I take my thyroxine last thing at night with a few sips of water. This means that I can take my B12, selenium, adrenal supplement and magnesium in the morning with breakfast.

You don't say why you take it at night did you have trouble absorbing it ?
