best time to take Levothyroxine

can anyone advise best time to take Levothyroxine l usually have a cup of tea first thing and take the Levothyroxine after, but have now read it should be taken on its own with water.

If you get up for a pee in the night it's an ideal time 🤗

Tea and coffee can affect the absorption of levothyroxine but if you are not having problems there's no need to change. However, I believe you are on 50 mcg? If so, you might get reduced absorption if your dose is increased. You can take levothyroxine any time but it is best to avoid tea, coffee and large or fatty meals. Maybe switch to taking it in the evening as this might be easier.

I always have a glass of water by the bed. Take tablets first thing with water. By the time tea is brewed it’s about half an hour…..works for me.

Whatever method you use, the important thing is to stick with it and have it exactly the same way consistently. Changing how you have it will affect the rate of absorption also.

The idea of having it on an empty stomach and only with water from anywhere between 30mins to 4 hours, is based on getting the best and same absorption rate. Based on this, a person would hopefully end up with the lowest effective dose (this would be a good thing long term as higher doses come with risks too). Many who during the night do this, especially if there are other medications people need to have.

it’s better absorbed if you take it just before bed you might not need a cuppa then and can see if it makes any difference. Some cannot sleep if they take it then so it may not suit you.

hi as you will have already been informed yea ir coffee is a no no before and after thyroxin a least an hour each way

I take mine at night before bed and have found it works for me
