Going through my latest results with my GP, bearing in mind I'd been low on Folate, Ferritin etc for years and been told all good.

GP: Vit D is excellent at 100nmol/L

Me: Yes

GP: Folate is good at 10.8 ug/L (3.4 - 12.2)

Me: Yes

GP: B12 is good at 461 ng/L (211 -911)

Me: Mmn

GP: Ferritin is good at 49 ug/L

Me: No it isn't

Before I could say any more......

GP: Well, some say that for hair and nails you need it to be over 70, and some that it should be 100.

WTF. You can imagine what I wanted to say........but I didn't

Me: Mmn, I think I need to switch from Ferrous Gluconate to Ferrous Fumerate.

GP: Yes, I agree, and Oh, I'll put that on repeat for you.

The arsehole still didn't text me a blood form to re-test in a couple of months.........so, I'll have to chase that up. Maybe he just forgot.......

I don't get it? That sounds like a pretty good conversation?

Sorry, the point I was making was that if I'd agreed with the GP that my ferritin level was good, (and I didn't know any better until I joined this forum) I would have been left to just let it gradually reduce. You could have blown me over with a feather when he mentioned hair/nails etc

In 15yrs not one of the GP's at my surgery ever mentioned that I might benefit from Iron Supplements, (level was 24 in 2007 & 16 in 2015, 15 in 2021) but my GP is aware that I now research, which is getting me better treatment.

Oh I see! Yes, I was thinking that was a remarkably good conversation.

But you’re absolutely right—if you’d had no knowledge you’d have believed that everything was fine when it wasn’t.

Not good enough, is it?

No, it really isn't good enough.

He's still going to make me work for it though..........hence ferritin wasn't included in the blood form he sent me for my next testing in a few months. I expect he's hoping I will either forget, or consider it too much hassle,

Arrgghh!

The one thing you’d think he’d make sure was on there.

Sending you strength!
