Ultrasound results today, relieved!

I have a Cystic Nodule just left of the isthmus, 11x30x30mm, with no lymphadenopathy. My bloods are normal and I show no real symptoms apart from the goitre and a stiff neck. Which no doubt has been caused by the anxiety of not knowing what's going on!

I've been told that due to the above it'll be a case of 6 monthly bloods and scans.

However I'm thinking of going private and perhaps checking out RFA, would you guys recommend that route too?

Good the ultrasound results were reassuring.

What were thyroid function results?

Is nodule causing issue? if not overproducing or affecting you physically eg breathing, swallowing, voice or painful shouldn’t need treating.

Are you in UK?

No issues really apart from vanity and a tense, stiff neck. No swallowing or pain issues.

My results are basic GP tests, but hoping to go private for a more thorough breakdown

TSH 2.65 [0.03 - 4.20]

TPO <9 [0 - 34]

Ex pat based in Spain.

With TSH over 2 I would want FT4 & FT3 tested. That’s could be sign the thyroid starting to struggle.

Ultrasound looks at health of thyroid but can’t tell you function - that’s why full blood tests is good idea.

I have links on nice guidelines on RFA & UK information.

Only 2 NHS hospitals perform it so quite very limited, I wish I could have it on mine.

Usually you require 2 fine needle aspiration at least several weeks apart to confirm benign. The target area must not be behind collar bone or growing beyond normal thyroid area.

You’ll need assessment the procedure itself & follow up. Let us know how your search goes.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

You could do full private test on next visit to U.K. ?

Update: I hate when people don't update, sadly I was guilty too. So here goes.

I had an Ethanol Ablation performed. It reduced the size of my nodule by 95%, and left a small scar nodule. It was actually a painful experience, I was awake and the side effect during the procedure was similar to an intense brain freeze.

All good now, no regrowth, but I need yearly Ultrasounds.
