Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) looks at a certain type of thyroid antibodies. (There are several others)
What is the reference range? If the result is above the expected level the result is positive if it’s below is negative. Although levels can fluctuate greatly.
Ranges might appear like
IU/mL < 115 or
(0-115)
Different labs uses different ranges.
Your doctors might suspect a thyroid autoimmune condition. Usually antibodies are tested if you have had a previous test indicating abnormal thyroid levels.
Usually TSH, FT4 & FT3 are tested first do you have results of those?
Are you diagnosed with a thyroid condition, or taking medication?
My tsh was low normal t3 and t4 were in the middle of the range. I am trying to get a diagnosis but my dr keeps sending me for all kinds of test. Ultrasound, uptake snd scan. I have a nodule I have had for at least 10 years. It is still the same size as original scan and the fna was benign.
What were exact result & ranges?
What did the scan & uptake test conclude? Uptake test are quite conclusive about function throughout thyroid.
If the nodule is over producing some hormones it can cause the TSH to drop -
The Thyroid Stimulating Hormone is a pituitary hormone which signal the thyroid to produce.
It’s signal drops down as there’s extra hormones from the nodule - the thyroid isn’t working as much to supply the thyroid hormones as they are coming from nodule not thyroid.
First the TSH drops then often FT3 tends to rise first followed by FT4. If and when it produces so much the FT4 or FT3 becomes continuously over range it requires treatment. This can happen very slowly (over years) or can occur quicker. You need levels frequently monitored.
Doctors focus on TSH & might suggest a medication (anti thyroid) which works by stopping the body use iodine. This will temporarily reduce the body producing new thyroid hormones.
They may recommend it based on low TSH but if your FT4 & FT3 are in range it will be bringing in range levels to hypo the make the TSH respond.
FT4 & FT3 don’t always go high. The Free T4 & T3 is the important measurements.
It should be monitored. Its good your doctor's testing.
How is your husband and how are you doing?
Best wishes.
Things could be better. This all started after my husband had a stroke and my ulcerative colitis went out of remission we could also throw COVID into the mix.
Hello Mommie and welcome to the forum :
Have you had thyroid issues in the past ?
Hi MommieDifficult to advise without the ranges. Are you able to post them with your results please?
