I am sorry you had a Thyroïdectomiy operation due to your thyroid gland being affected and removed. I hope you have recovered well after the operation.

Levothyroxine 100 has to replace your thyroid hormones as your body will not be able to produce it as you had a Thyroïdectomy.

The following link has got more information:-

I am sorry to hear of your Thyroid cancer and if it helps, treatment is usually very successful and completely cured. A skilled surgeon will remove the thyroid without damage to the Parafollicular cells which produce calcium. You will probably have a calcium test to ensure they are not damaged and might even be prescribed calcium in the early stages just in case. T4 is a slow-release drug to replace that produced by your thyroid and leaves your body to convert that to T3 and other thyroid functions. It is usual to overprescribe this to keep you suppressed so that the body does not try to find minute thyroid cells and make another gland. Are you having radium treatment as well? Wishing you well.

Sorry pap cancer is never cured and your always at risk for a recurrence thats why monitoring is required.

Yes sorry Batty1, like all cancer there is never total certainty but a long record of not reoccuring with treatment and if it hasn't spread. So important that goitres are checked in early stages.

Never cured? Even caught early and after a total thyroidectomy? I had this type with no spread into lymph so (despite regular check ups obviously ) was kind of reassured. I'm aware that any cancer can appear at any time anywhere in body, but to say that pap cancer is never cured seems a bit unfair and drastic to people going through it. I'm 19 years out the other side and would have found that scary and unsupportive to read when I was at that stage. ...

My comment was not drastic or unfair its unfair that people think having pap cancer is easy peasy remove your thyroid and your cured forever and thats not 100% true for a lot of us. I was told over and over you have pap cancer the “best kind of cancer” lets talk about and unfair comment “best kind of cancer” its the worse comment anyone can say to people who had pap cancer as if it really isn’t cancer.

I do speak from experience with not curable because Im currently dealing with recurrence of my pap cancer “best kind” sure it is after repeatedly being told I don’t have to worry only to have to deal with it again.

Now it is true that most people who had pap cancer won’t suffer a recurrence but its also true to say not even doctors can predict who and who won’t have a recurrence thats why you should be monitored at least once a year and to say its curable will have some people believing they don’t need to be seen for monitoring which could put certain people at risk.

Of course I agree with you about monitoring, that was not my point . I really wish you all the best with your current health challenge. Sending you positive wishes and hope that it goes as well as possible for you.

Hello again :

Do you have any blood test results a Free T3 and Free T4 number and range ?

T4 converts into T3 - it is T3 that runs the body :

Your thyroid supported you with trace elements of T1. T2 and calcitonin, plus a measure of T3 at around 10 mcg plus a measure of T4 at around 100 mcg.

Where are you in the World - if in France you might be able to get T3 prescribed ?

Where are you living ?

A thyroid produces trace, elements of T1, T2 and calcitonin, plus T3 and T4 :

Can you buy any other thyroid medication ?

Can you buy T3 - Liothyronine ?

Can you buy Natural Desiccated Thyroid which contains trace elements of T1. T2 and calcitonin plus T3 and T4 - sometimes called Desiccated Thyroid Extract : ?

No T3 here but can body produce calcitonin from levothyrox

helvella profile image

No. Rightly or wrongly, calcitonin is generally regarded as not very important in humans.

And any taken by mouth would be expected to be destroyed in the stomach. Hence, in the odd situations in which calcitonin is precribed, they might well use a nasal spray. But it is not often used because it is thought to have the potential to cause cancer.

No - I do not think so .

There are trace elements of calcitonin is Desiccated Thyroid Extract -

Can you get this in your country - it is thyroid hormone replacement :

Where in the world are you ?

Can you import Desiccated Thyroid Extract - Natural Desiccated Thyroid : ?

I had the same thing back in 2015. Before the operation my thyroid was working perfectly.I was put on Levo and became very unwell. I then joined this site for information, took a private blood test posted the results with the ranges and waited for answers. For the past seven years I have been buying NDT Thyroid s. I feel well and my blood test results and good too. You may be lucky and feel well on Levo I hope so.

Hi Raoudha ~ It's quite scary to find it's possible to have multiple cancers - not just thyroid.

I started with small cell lung cancer, while being treated found medullary thyroid cancer and a year later had a colon mass. On the bright side I'm almost six years out with no sign of recurrent disease. Your kidney cyst and colon polyp may be totally unrelated but should they develop into "something" concerning in the future you may want to pursue genomic testing.

Calcitonin tends to not be an issue unless you have medullary thyroid cancer - in that case it is used as the primary cancer marker. (I have both papillary and medullary, so I monitor both calcitonin and thyroglobulin). Some doctors avoid desiccated thyroid (NDT) because they feel it may include some calcitonin - I take NDT and if there is any calcitonin it it my blood tests are unable to detect it.

Conversion of T4 (levothyroxine) to T3 after thyroidectomy can be pretty individual; some people do quite well on just levothyroxine while others need additional T3 or do best on NDT - the only way you know is to have Free T4 and Free T3 levels checked along with TSH.
