Hi sorry to be a pain . I had my vit b12 bloods checked yesterday . Results today 1359ng/L. My question is could the fact that I had 3 vit b12 injections from November to 21st December still be having an effect on my bloods ? On 21 June last year my vit b12 was 573 ng/L . And gone up to 1359ng/L , If not any ideas on why it might be so high . Haven’t spoken to Gp yet but I paid privately to see if b12 inj would help my fatigue so my gp is unaware of that ! It didn’t help either . Thank you in advance .

If you are having B12 injections then there is no point in being given a vitamin B12 test - the result will be meaningless. The body can store B12 for a couple of years in the liver.
If it was something you chose to do yourself then I think you should tell your GP. If he/she tells you that you are in danger from such a high level of B12 then ignore them.
If B12 is high without supplementation then it might indicate a problem (but not with B12). B12 is stored in the liver. If someone developed liver cancer their B12 could start leaking into the bloodstream and give a very high result.
But it isn't the B12 that gave them liver cancer - the two things are completely unrelated.
But if B12 is high following supplementation then it just means that your body has stored a lot of B12, it isn't proof of a problem.
Hi thank you . I’m not being supplemented and haven’t since the last dose in 21st Dec , it’s like 6 months down the line and I’m wondering could that dose still be in my system and make my bloods wrong ? . Sorry if I was rambling and unclear . I will of course tell my dr I chose to do this . Thanks again
B12 is stored in the liver. Three injections in a few weeks will have "filled up your stores". Allegedly, it can take 2 - 5 years to use up all your B12.
When you got your injections did you take any folate? For your body to make use of B12 you must have sufficient folate.
Don't take folic acid - you would need to take methylfolate, which is easily found on supplement websites. The reasons for this are given in this link :

If your levels of folate are low take 1000mcg of methylfolate until your level is optimal. (i.e. upper half of range) then stop taking it.
It is also worth taking a good quality B Complex permanently i.e. one with activated B vitamins, such as Thorne Research Basic B.
Oh I was told you just pee any excess out of your system and that’s why you feel you need another dose . The fatigue comes back ! But thanks for your advice .
I think peeing out the excess is possible - but I don't know at what level the body decides B12 should be urinated out.
The reference ranges for B12 are set by humans - the body may have different ideas.
Hi
Mine was 2000, I get jabs every 3 months. Just got one today in fact. I don't know why my GP asked for it to be tested. Nor did the lab. My GP knows I get jabs. Waste of time and blood lol.
