No, but it seems… a bit weird. :-o

alturix.com/products/ Seems that Alturix currently only produce 5 products, so is the idea that they’ll produce liothyronine? Untried, untested—and uncontested? What’s that word “exclusive” doing in this press release??

They appear to be acquiring right to sell Helm liothyronine!

The agreement for liothyronine is the latest example of our successful growth strategy, and further demonstrates the company’s commitment to reliably and affordably supply important products like this, to increase the currently-limited options available to patients and the NHS.”

not sure what to make of the word 'exclusive ' ? hoping it doesn't mean what i think it means.

pharmaceuticalmanufacturer.... - a rapidly-growing British pharmaceutical company - has announced it has acquired the exclusive rights to liothyronine for the United Kingdom following the finalisation of an agreement with HELM AG, based in Hamburg.

Founded in 2020 following the acquisition of two family-owned pharmaceutical companies, ALTURiX has a portfolio of well-known medicines which are prescribed widely by the NHS. The mission set out by the ALTURiX founders is to reliably provide branded products at an appropriate price. ALTURiX was created and shaped to provide these high-quality medicines to the NHS with streamlined efficiency.

The company portfolio includes three heritage branded products acquired from Novartis - all proven and acknowledged to improve patients’ health. ALTURiX reliably supplies these products to the NHS and other international markets, using its manufacturing partner based in Switzerland. This is in keeping with the company’s commitment to reliably deliver high-quality products, at a sensible price.

In addition, for the last five years the company has been growing rapdily through a programme of new product acquisitions, and market introductions.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr, Simon Clough – founder and director at ALTURiX said: “We are delighted to announce this deal with HELM for such an important product for UK thyroid patients – especially as this is International Thyroid Awareness Week. The agreement for liothyronine is the latest example of our successful growth strategy, and further demonstrates the company’s commitment to reliably and affordably supply important products like this, to increase the currently-limited options available to patients and the NHS.”

It was the word ‘exclusive’ that worried me…we all know how bad things got the last time there was an exclusive company involved in the selling of Liothyronine 🤔

just off to look up who the heck HELM AG are ,and what they have to do with it in case that sheds any light on the subject helvella will probably know , so i daresay we'll find out more next time he's on .

Helm levothyroxine oral solution is already available in the UK!

Confusingly imported by DLRC.

helmag.com/business-lines/p... ~ ? looks like they figure out how to develop and ? manufacture whatever you want them to ?

The exclusivity is for Helm liothyronine - no other liothyronine. (As I understand.)

witchcat43 in reply to helvella

I wonder what that will mean with regards to pricing?

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to witchcat43

Given that Roma hard capsules are £55 (5 and 20 microgram) and £65 (10 microgram), and that the people in Alturix are well aware of current pricing, I think they will be in that general area. Otherwise there would be little incentive for pharmacies to switch - even if there is patient demand.

So ... ? this just means a little company we've never heard of in milton keynes (Alterix ) has just bought the exclusive rights to manufacture another brand of Lio that we haven't had before ?

That 's ok then , i thought for one horrible minute it meant , "NHS says you can have any colour (of liothyronine) you like as long as it's black" (and and made by Alturix)

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to tattybogle

There is no reason, yet, to expect them to manufacture the product - though I could be wrong.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to tattybogle

No - I don't get the impression Alturix make anything. Certainly, what I have read so far suggests they are acquiring product from Helm AG (probably Richter-Helm the pharmaceutical arm).

However, Helm AG seem to be very much more into general chemicals than pharmaceuticals - though they appear to be increasing the pharmaceutical operations.

Reading between the lines, which could be a big mistake, I suspect that Helm AG have started producing liothyronine as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) rather than buying that in from yet another company. Obviously, if Helm are launching a liothyronine finished product, they would be using their own API.

yes looks like they 'do' fertilizer first and drugs second.

Mind you ,most of this business about "who sells what licence to whom ' is beyond me ...... i never did have much of a head for business.

I just make yurt covers for hobbits.. and they don't know much about business either.

Thanks for helping clear a way through the fog as usual ,

:)

Well, Fisons also went into pharma from farm!

If I've got my memory working properly, I think that is why Wockhardt levothyroxine says CP in the tablets! They owned CP Pharmaceuticals (who were at one time based in Charnwood near Loughborough, but later relocated to Wrecsam) who were acquired by Wockhardt in 2003.

(But Fisons pharmaceuticals were acquired by Rhone-Poulenc to confuse it further.)

It's hard work trying to find these things out - and even harder remembering and recalling them. :-)

Shows how much i know .. i still thought Fisons were just into grow bags and manure

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to tattybogle

The agriculture/agrochemical side of Fisons was sold off to Norsk Hydro many years ago!

(I have no idea if we still get Fison's branded products - nor who owns that brand now.)

That’s how I understood it

Exclusive on supplying Helm liothyronine in the UK

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to SlowDragon

What we don't know is whether it will be branded Helm or Alturix! When we were in the EU, approval processes meant there was a good reason to keep the Helm brand. That might not now be the case - I simply do not know.

Is there any clarity on this? Or are ALTURiX off to a good start by making misleading headlines? What does the use of the word "exclusive" mean? If exclusive means exclusive then has the UK/NHS learnt nothing from the Concordia debacles (hydrocortisone 20mg strength, prices rose from £1.07 to £102.74, T3 overcharging by £100m with price per pack rising from £4.46 to £258 in 10 years). I sense another letter coming on for my MP!
