Hair loss and Vaccines

Hi everyone

Some people may know from my previous posts that I've been struggling a lot with hair loss. Since this February it has rapidly increased and I'm trying my best not to stress about this. I am not on any medication, but have booked an appointment with a functional medicine practitioner from the list to help me find the root cause.

I am trying to work out what has triggered this hair loss for me again after 5 years of managing it through diet, although the hair that was lost has not been replaced.

In November 2021 I had the Hepatitis B vaccine as i needed it for Occy health clearance at work, and the 2nd dose in March. I have read on a forum type website about women experiencing hair loss after taking this vaccine and I'm devastated to think this might be what has triggered it of for me

My question is, has anyone heard of this link between vaccines (Hep B) and hair loss?

Many thanks for reading

Shows TSH too high

No Ft3 or Ft4

Ferritin only 51

B12 and folate too low

Suggest you get full thyroid and vitamin testing done

Medichecks currently have 20% off

Test before 9am Monday or Tuesday morning

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and separate B12

When testing ferritin stop iron supplements a week before test

Do test fasting and don’t eat high iron dinner night before test

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Thanks SlowDragon, I have read the post from 2 months ago already, not sure why you have sent that again.

My question was to do with hair loss and vaccines, and if anyone has heard of this link before.

Whilst I've no personal experience, a quick Google check uncovers scientific evidence of it (link 1 below) and anecdotal (link 2).

Medics will deflect the possibility (as link 2) so you've made a good decision to seek out a FM practitioner. I trust you've considered relevant, other options eg thyroid, which I assume is behind Slow Dragons response.

Hi, thanks for your reply Theres a lot of conflicting info out there about it I dont know what to believe.

I have been trying everything slow dragon suggested and I'm annoyed that a vaccine has undone all my hard work :(

My reply just now doesn't seem to have got through so I'll try again.

I understand your concern as I've suffered side effects from a prescription medication for many years. Only a natural approach has helped although I'm not 100% recovered after 6y.

And we won't be alone as many will suffer ongoing effects from meds including vaccines (yes including covid!).

Good luck with FM practitioner
