Hair loss, NDT and heavy metals.

I have just switched from Levothyroxine to Nature Throid. I continue to suffer with hair loss. I wondered what people's experiences are after taking NDT in respect of stopping hair loss? My ferritin etc has been checked and reasonably ok. I supplement with Biotin and Evening Primrose oil. Also has anyone experienced hair loss through being toxic with heavy metals? Thank you.

My hair temporarily stopped falling out about 8months after an iron infusion, then started again. Ndt did not stop hair loss

If you've just switched to NDT, it may take some time for your hair to recover.

I think it would take a while on NDT for your hair to recover. I have found this shampoo very helpful as I've had alopecia areata. It did help to stop shedding. It's to be used every 3 days for the 1% and for 4 weeks at a time for the 2% (which is prescription only).

This is also has good information re hair loss.

Has anyone tried the Aveda Invati System for hair loss?

invati.aveda.com/learn-more

Also, I am on Naturethroid (NT) and my dr just added Synthroid to the NT, and my hair loss has gone from really bad to horrific, so there is no doubt in my mind that the Synthroid causes hair loss for some of us.

I have been on NDT for 6 months and have see some of it growing back. I also use Nioxin. Are you at the optimal dose of NDT? What are your levels?

Hello, thanks for your reply. I am only two weeks in after almost ten months of hair loss. I will have to be patient! I was previously on 50mg of Levothryoxine and so take half a grain of Nature Throid.

What works better? Nioxin or Nizoral? Anyone know?... Do either of them dry hair out? and are either of them safe for colored hair?

How much NDT do you take? I got raised to 3 grains (195mg NT) and then my hair loss increased, so then my dr reduced my NT to 97.5mg and also added in 100mcg of Synthroid. But the 100mcg of Synthroid has increased my hair loss to the most it has ever been. So as of today, I refuse to take Synthroid, and will ask to be put back to a lower dose on NDT. The other thing I have noticed with Synthroid is that it dries my hair out immensely, my hair feels crackley if that makes sense, and normally I have oily hair.

My FT4 has barely been increasing on the NDT, so that is why he said I needed additional T4.

I use Nioxin, I have colored hair and it is not drying. I am at 1 3/4 grains NDT. I also take 5,000 IU Vitamin D, iron and B12. I was severely deficient in them as well. I would get your levels for the list cc120 posted. It might not be just your thyroid.

you said you sue nioxin , most zinc shampoos strip the hair color...did this one not strip your hair color...I used one and after one use my grey hair line was back....so before I try this..can you assure me and tell me exactly which on you are using....THANKS

I don't think it stripped my hair color. I go in every couple of months to get recolored. You can buy sample sizes and give it a try. It might depend on a number of factors like how dry your hair is, what color it was before you dyed it, etc.

How often do you use Nioxin? Has it helped with reducing hair loss? I've been tested for everything cc120 listed, and a whole lot more. The only thing that has come back is my thryoid is low and my Vit D is low. I'm on 2,000iu Vit D3 daily.
