five years almost since I first fell ill with hypo/Hashi

At the age of 24 I was working 37 hours per week. No health issues to think about just a normal humdrum existence. Yes, my eating habits were a bit rubbish but other than that I was ticking along nice. That was until the 22/06/2017 I went to work as usual by lunch time I felt a bit under the weather. I thought all it was maybe just a small cold so didn’t really pay much attention to it. I thought as well that after the Friday it was the weekend so I could chill out anyway. I went to bed on Thursday night not realising the horror which was about to happen to me. I wake up the next morning completely wrecked to the point I was struggling to stand up, no energy or strength. However, I had work so instead of cycling in which I normally did I got a lift in. I was thinking blimey this is a strong cold. The day at work was very hard I got progressively worse and work mates said I looked terrible. When I left at 4pm I was absolutely worn out. I got home didn’t eat or shower, just went bed. I then slept for around nearly 20 hours to then wake up and feel worse. I had now got a temperature and my throat was on fire. I went back sleep, woke up on Sunday to find myself completely dripping in sweat bed sheets and duvet were soaked. At this point I was thinking what is this? I decide to go down the NHS walk in centre and I must have passed out in there. I came around and was being examined by a paramedic who then wheelchaired me to the ambulance. Down the hospital I have blood tests, they let me go a few hours later saying I had probably had a small infection. After this I start to feel a bit better and think its behind me. However, I begin to notice thing aren’t right. When I was in a conversation, I would suddenly get a pain in my throat which would then cause me pain when talking, almost as if someone had punched my voice box, anxiety followed with tiny little things causing me to freak out which was just weird. Around a week later the symptom that has plagued me on and off arrived. I started to feel like I had been on the booze and felt off balance when walking. This symptom stayed with me for 6 long mentally challenging months. I paid visits to the Drs and hospitals as my symptoms were getting worse. The anxiety was unbearable to the point where I was struggling to function and hold down my job. On one night I went to the hospital terrified about what was happening to me. They did blood tests and bingo one test said I had prior EBV infection and one of the thyroid levels wasn’t right. This info was passed onto the GP who kept me suffering basically parroting test again in 6 weeks. The way I was feeling I didn’t think I would be alive after 3 weeks. She gave me propranolol to calm the anxiety which it did to be honest but not for long, it would always come back. This situation the regular blood tests lasted up until December of that year when with a TSH of 17 and a Ft4 of 13. I got a call from the GP saying I should start Levothyroxine. It was exactly six months later 22/12/2017. Obviously, I hadn’t got a clue what she was on about but agreed to take it. Wow within a week maybe two I felt so much better the drunk off-balance symptom went away anxiety went into hibernation. I thought okay so this was the issue. Glandular fever or EBV had basically caused my immune system to knock seven shades of sh1t out of the thyroid. Around March 24th 2018 I was upgraded to 75mcg and I think in June 2018 I was put on 100mcg. From June 2018 to May 2021, I actually forgot about the condition really. I just took my levo and went work, no real issues. As you know last year and this year started to suffer again. Last year undermedicated, this year overmedicated.

Have you had your vitamin test results back yet

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

You need vitamin D, folate, B12, iron and ferritin levels tested

Are you vegetarian or vegan?

You were left under medicated last year …..TSH over 5 on 100mcg

Then apparently too big an increase to 125mcg

Now back on 100mcg

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription?

Can take a while to rebalance

Thyroid levels will need retesting 6-8 weeks after recent dose change

ESSENTIAL to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate

Have you had coeliac blood test done yet
