Potential Pituitary Problems

I posted recently about my impending dread of thyroid bloods being done by GP. I did a MMH test in December and my TSH was very low or suppressed at 0.03 but my frees were only around 50 %. FT4 was 17.1 (12-22) and FT3 was 4.7 (3.1-6.8). So certainly not overmedicated.

Greygoose mentioned a possible problem with my pituitary. Do any knowledgeable members know if it could be. I'm due a brain MRI at some point and I'm seeing a neurologist and wondered if it was worth mentioning.

I've long suspected my thyroid problem might be linked to a damaged pituitary as I don't have Hashimotos antibodies. I think I might have had Sheehan's syndrome during my son's birth, I had massive blood loss and 4 weeks later another haemhorrage. And this can damage the pituitary gland. I certainly had many of the symptoms of this. Just wondered if it merited further investigation?

Well, of course, greygoose isn't knowledgeable, but I'd say of course it's worth following up! Especially if you had heavy bleeding whilst giving birth. I didn't know that at the time I made those comments, or would have said it's almost certain it's Secondary Hypo. But, what were your numbers on diagnosis, do you remember?

HiTSH was about 7.1, FT4 was 11, no idea about FT3 as it didn't get tested at the time. My FT4 only got into range when I went on Levo. I know when the NHS did test my FT3 due to out of range FT4 and persistently high TSH it was 3.6, and that was whilst on Levo so guessing it was even lower before.

Not much point giving results without ranges. Was 11 below range?

If both your FT4 and FT3 were below range and your TSH was only 7.1, it certainly would look like the pituitary wasn't firing on all cylinders.

Sorry I gave ranges in my post above. FT4 is 12-22, FT3 is 3.1 to 6.8. No idea what my FT3 was at diagnosis as NHS didn't test it.
