Latest thyroid results, may have conversion problem.

Her are my last 2 sets of thyroid results

14/02/2022

TSH 0.03 (0.35-5.50)

FT4 21.6(10.0-20.0)

24/01/2022

TSH 0.03(0.35-5.50)

FT4 19.4(10.0-20.0)

Needless to say my GP will want to reduce my levo and having spoken to the endocrinologist on Friday last week, who said he's happy for me to continue on 100mcg and would consider reducing my dose, if my TSH becomes undetectable, I'm now in a quandary as to what to do.

I am pretty sure, I have a conversion problem as I'm currently taking both lansoprazole 15mg and Propranolol 60mg,but as they refuse point blank to test ft3, they'll never know for sure. I'm mainly worried about becoming severely constipated if my dose is reduced and I'm fairly sure I could reduce to 87.5mcg, by taking 75mcg and 100mcg on alternate days. However, any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

In your position I'd be doing a private test with Monitor My Health for TSh, FT4 and FT3. As this is an NHS lab the results should be acceptable to your doctors. If this shows poor conversion then you have some leverage.

I've definitely thought about it, but I'm worried that if I prick my finger/fingers and start bleeding, it may not stop as on clopidigrel because of my stroke, although it stopped OK when nurse took blood, but I'm not a nurse, so it is a worry.

I take Apixaban anticoagulant for atrial fibrillation. I do these finger prick test kits several times a year. I've never had a problem. I usually have to prick 2 fingers to get enough out. Be sure to follow the instructions about where to prick.

Obviously you need to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Test early Monday or Tuesday morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

GP should be testing at least twice year

Especially magnesium and B12

Lansoprazole will tend to lower vitamin levels

Propranolol tends to lower Parathyroid levels ….so important to test vitamin D and magnesium

Anything else I should know

Drugs that may decrease PTH include cimetidine and propranolol.

I haven't had my vitamin d levels tested for at least two years and trying to get them to do it,is like trying to get blood out of a stone, they are just so stubborn and don't like patients telling them what blood tests they need to do. As I've said to Seaside Susie it would mean doing a monitor my health test and worried about blood not stopping as on antiplatelet medication since my stroke.

Refuse to reduce dose levothyroxine until they have tested all four vitamins and TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Alternatively get Medichecks or Blue horizon test and pay extra for private blood draw

Are you taking any magnesium supplements

How much vitamin D were you taking

Remember to stop taking Igennus B complex a week before all blood tests
