Any thoughts on my recent bloods before I start supplementing. I do have FBC results too if relevant.
TSH 1.94 (0.35-4.94mu/L)
Folate 5.9 (2.7-15ug/L)
Serum B12 186 (187-883ng/L)
Ferritin 43 (23-300ug/L)
Vit D 28 (50-120nmol/L)
Unfortunately, I think I've taken my eye off the ball this last couple of years 😔
Shame it wasn't full thyroid bloods but it was an early, fasted test with no Levo for 24hrs. I take 125mcg daily and that's it currently but know I need to start supplementing. I am gluten free and good varied diet.
Many thanks 😊

all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
I have had previous coeliac test which was negative. I'm Gluten free to try and support thyroid. Not veggie- I eat loads of eggs (daily), red meat a few times a week and lots of veg/nuts/seeds.The bloods were done by the GP.
In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency
Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones
