Blood test results.

I had the blood test on Monday. I hadn't taken any supplements (VitD3, and B complex) or Levothyroxine (100mcg) since Saturday morning. I have Hashimoto's and very little gland left. I'm very surprised to be over-medicated. GP wants to cut the dose. Could you knowledgeable folk look at the screenshot and give me your opinion? Thanks.

Just testing TSH is completely inadequate

Refuse to reduce dose levothyroxine until done TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 test

Bloods should always be tested as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

You left too long at 48 hours

TSH won’t have been affected

Are you only taking levothyroxine?

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

TSH was within range a year ago and I've been taking exactly the same dose meanwhile. Surgery will only test Total T3 (last year it was literally on the bottom of normal range) so I'll have to find a testing service that doesn't require a fingerprick. Thanks for your advice.

You are ONLY over-medicated if free T3 is over-range - not if TSH goes under.

You have not had ANY thyroid hormones tested - getting free T4 shouldn't be controversial although free T3 is arguably more useful. I certainly wouldn't agree to a reduction in meds if you are feeling good as you are without free T4 at an absolute minimum also being tested x

ps if the GP freaks at a suppressed TSH, that's because s/he doesn't understand the crucial distinction between low TSH plus waaaay over-range free T3 plus not being on thyroid meds (of which the free T3 result is actually the crucial bit), compared with being hypo and on medication ....
