HiIf you are on FB there's an excellent private group there called The Menopause Support Network. You will have excellent advice there.
But for now I can assure you that you take the same dosage of Utrogestan regardless of the number of pumps of gel or size of patch etc that you use. So just take as advised, ie every night or for 2 weeks on a cyclical method for a bleed.
1 pump of gel is nothing. You should move up to 2 pumps, the starting dose, as soon as you are used to it. Then let 2 pumps settle for 3 months and have a review with the doctor.
I was on hrt patches but for some reason they was setting my fnd off so i swap ova to the gel and night tablet but i only do one pump because i want my body just to get use to them but i'l stick to one pump and one tablet then up them in 7 days just thought i dont want them to give me any side effects has had a yr of side effects off other meds thanks for the advice xx
I used to take 1 x Utrogestan tablet and 1 pump of Oestrogel. However, as I was oestrogen deficient endo said I could increase to 2 pumps with 1 x Utrogestan if symptoms didn't abate, but they did 😊.
In the presence of oestrogen meds the progesterone dose given is one that best protects the endometrium against the risk of developing abnormal cancer cells by inducing a small bleed. These specific doses are given as either 100 mg daily on days 1–25 of each 28-day cycle, or some doctors suggest 200 mg daily on days 15–26 of each 28-day. Oestrogel is used everyday.
They are best taken together as work together, and it is suggested best at sleep time as progesterone can induce a drowsy effect. However, I always took both mine in the mornings as couldn't stand the coldness of the gel at night time 😁.
Or right Its all a bit complecated because i went 7 months with no period and then had two within a month then had none again for another 3 months so i dunno where in my cycle id be then i went on patches a wk on them and felt so tired and they triggered of more of this fnd ive got swap over to the gel put only low dose going to see how i go on this one pump one tablet at night maybe in a wk or so up it 🤞
So inside your utrogestan box it will give you a leaflet and in it mentions 2 ways.First cyclical (sequential) usually you take 2 x 100 mg utrogestan for so many days of your cycle, this is usually what most take who are still having periods or (erratic ones) start on.
Then second is continually for those who haven’t had a period in a while and the dose is 100 mg each evening, all progesterone is usually taken at night as can aid sleep.
Some people can’t tolerate it but give it chance.
This is only a guide, it is best you speak to your GP, saying that I’ve been told one thing and on my prescription another, completely different to the leaflet.
GP may have prescribed you something unique, so would advise chatting to GP/Clinical Pharmacist at your practice if you have one.
The above ways mention are the licensed ways but we’re all different.
I took hrt continuously age 55 with erratic periods, told after still getting bleeds after 8 months, that I shouldn’t be, there’s a settling in period on hrt and some do get bleeds but it should stop.
So any bleeds need reporting on continuous hrt as this can be a symptom of endometrial cancer in some menopausal women, so you will have a scan to check all is ok.
I’m my case which showed luckily normal endometrial lining but did find adenomyosis (similar to endometriosis but of myometrium) and a small ovarian cyst, I had to come off hrt for another scan after having CA125 blood test to check the cyst, which was normal to make sure the cyst was just a simple one as didn’t look it in the scan… my next scan which had to come off hrt for showed it had gone so there’s a possibility continuous hrt hasn’t helped that situation but I’ve been told I can go back on hrt now and to go cyclically.
I had a call from GP last Monday told one thing which doesn’t correlate to prescription I picked up so waiting to hear today from another GP I know who is up on things like this and put me on hrt initially.
But as I’ve had few issues along the way, I can’t say my other GP is wrong, as guess it could of been tailored to my situation.
Cyclical seems complicated as I’m not in any real rhythm to know my cycles, to start to take it and why it was easier but probably a bit too soon to go on hrt continuously.
So do check with GP others can only give you information what’s written in leaflet, if you’ve thrown the leaflet away you can simply look it up on line Google utrogestan and it’s there.
Great website to look at and they have an app also by the same name, you can track all symptoms and lots of information on there and chat.
It is unusual to start on 1 pump of oestrogel, the starting dose is usually 2. Do you know why it’s only 1?
The amount of progesterone you take depends on if you are still having periods. In which case, it’s usually 2 tablets for 12-14 days a month, and no tablets the rest of the month. If you aren’t having periods it’s usually 1 tablet a day, every day. They should be taken at night as might cause drowsiness and at least 2 hours after food. Does the sticker from the pharmacist mention your dose?
Just a side note, thyroid levels should be monitored too if you’re on thyroxine. Since starting HRT I’ve had to reduce my thyroxine dose as I keep going hyper every time I increase my HRT. The same has just happened again I think. But this doesn’t happen with everyone.
How many pumps you need varies, on the 'normal' dose I had 'morning sickness' so I just do 1 pump, small if I can get it to do that, and I skip it every few days. So you may be able to tell what's right for you from balancing your relief from symptoms with any 'morning sickness' symptoms (eg on just a little too much I stop eating breakfast and lunch and suffer from indigestion). Hope that helps
Oh no 🙄sickness wow im glad ive not had that side effect yet,i was just a bit worried of taking two pumps because i was horrible on the patches so swaped over to gel im kinda just easing on one pump first for a few days and one tablet but today i'm feeling braver so just trying two pumps in to my inner thigh see how that goes tbh i dont think i'l feel any benefit from hrt because i only had headaches, painful joints and tireness all related probaby to other health issues ive been more so tired in myself and been waking up during the night since starting the hrt but we'l see how it goes really dont think i could feel any worse anyway because i suffer with other health conditions but 🤞 that it'l improve something at least!
