Oral progesterone 10 or 25 days a month?

I'd like to hear from those of you on oral progesterone, especially bio-identical as I'm not sure progestins are taken the same way.

I have taken Utrogestan 200 mg for ten days a month (day 15-25 of cycle) for the past few years (along with Estrogel day 5-25). A few months ago, my doctor suggested I take 100 mg of Utrogestan for 25 consecutive days instead after periods started getting irregular.

However, I've read that taking bio-idential P for 25 consecutive days applies to menopausal women, that is, at least 12 consecutive months since last period which is not my case.

So, I wanted to find out if anyone else has done this and noticed a positive difference? I read it can be a better way to counterbalance estrogen.

I take the same amount of oestrogen (2mg) and progesterone (125mg) and DHEA (12.5mg) every day as a sublingual lozenge. There are two schools of thought - one says that you should try to emulate a menstrual cycle and the other doesn't - I doubt they will ever agree.

OK, thanks! I think that once your periods end up erratic, emulating a menstrual cycle no longer makes sense...!

I don’t know too much about this, still learning, but I was initially started on Utrogestan for the 10 days before my cycle started, but since I was still getting menstral migraine my doctor has upped it to 15 days so 10 days before and 5 after. Haven’t done it yet so don’t know what effect it’ll have.

OK, so more to see if it helps with migraine than to regulate the cycle as such, if I understood you correctly...?

I use the same amount of progesterone every day but I only use 20 mg as utrogestan was too much for me I ended up overdosed. I am 61 and not fully menopausal that's why my doc recommend that I use it every day to protect my womb lining. Maybe your doc is looking at it from that angle too as everyday you don't have progesterone is a day your womb is not protected. The half life of progesterone is only 15 hours and only 5mins in your blood stream.

Did you use 200 mg of Utrogestan every day? I was told when used daily I should reduce it to 100 mg.

I only used 50mg utrogestan. I opened the pill and put half on my skin as I wasn't going to swallow it yuk! If you swallow a 100mg utrogestan only 20mg is usable as your liver gets rid of the other 80% so yes 100mg utrogestan is enough for everyday use. I went back to supplement spot cream on my skin. I can control the dose better. I get hormone tests and scans to monitor what is going on and how well it's working.

I take bio identical 200mg every day, I did go 13mos without a period and then started spotting (still trying to figure that out) I also have read a lot of conflicting articles on this and not sure what to think.
