My new brand of acerola powder contains calcium, which my old brand probably did too, given that it’s a natural product but I was wondering, is 8.5mgs daily all that much and irrespective of whether or not it is, should it be avoided?
Please check my calculations. Values on back of packet in photo
You’ll notice it also contains iron which

I always try and avoid calcium in supplements because I always have high in range results on the (rare) occasions it gets measured. If you have sufficient calcium (I get through a lot of milk) in your diet it begs the question "What happens to any excess?"
The worry for many people is that it will end up lining their arteries. But if you've never had your calcium measured you can't tell if this is even remotely likely.
Taking vitamin D will raise the amount of calcium absorbed by the diet, and for that calcium to go into bones and teeth where it is needed you need adequate levels of magnesium and vitamin K2. If you read some posts on the forum on the subject you may find it helpful.
Thank you for the link humanbean. It says for my age group the RDA is 1200mgs, so if I have 8.5mgs x 7 days/wk that’s approx 60mgs on top of what I already get from food. My only dairy is about half a pint of milk each day but goodness only knows how much is in my daily food. Nowhere near 1200mgs, I wouldn’t have thought, would you? Having said that though, would one’s daily intake equate to the amount in a blood test? Not sure how it works
None of my other supplements contain calcium and I take a vit d, k2 combined product
Interesting, I had no idea Acerola contains calcium. I take Jigsaw Health Adrenal Cocktail. Which one do you have? Quite happy that it does though. Given that 100mls of full fat milk contains 113mg of calcium that doesn’t sound like much. Plus this is a food supplement and not a synthetic vitamin. Can’t really compare the two either. So I doubt it’s an issue.
Thank you serendipitious (btw, just curious, was the extra i deliberate?)
Nor did I realise it contained calcium and you’re right of course, it’s a wonderfully natural product and so any naturally occurring “extras” will be in there too, including iron and because it’s a food it’s perhaps more readily assimilated, notwithstanding absorption problems, though I don’t know the facts on that
I’ve been using Kiki health acerola for years but it’s quite pricey so I thought I’d give Spring Blossom superfood and Sevenhills whole food a try, both better value than Kiki. I like them both and it’s quite nice as a cold drink mixed with water, which, if like me you like tart things, is a bonus
