But they don't see it as life blood. They don't know what it is or what it does. They are so badly educated they know next to nothing about thyroid. Their name suggests that they know all about all hormones, but they don't. The vast majority of endos are diabetes specialist and know nothing about thyroid.

Sorry, I've just reread your post and seen that you were talking about a psychiatrist, not an endo. But, I don't suppose he understands much about it, either. Very few doctors do. And they are terrified of hormones. Sorry, you appear to be going through a tough time, at the moment. I hope things get better soon. xxx

Are you U.K. based? Legally psychiatrist can only enforce mental health medication NOT physical medication and ONLY if you are detained under a Mental Health Act section such as section 3. There are very strict legal frameworks in place to protect patients around this. Other medication should be under your GP/endocrinologist or with your consent. I think the charity MIND may have some information on sections and what can/can’t be enforced as it were.

Sometimes they can use best interest if there are concerns someone might be at risk of harm to themselves, but there are procedures around this

I would suggest asking to speak to a patient advocate who can support you if you are in a position where you need support to make your case to a Psychiatrist. They can usually be accessed via Mental Health teams and can attend meetings with you to help you put forward your views.

It’s worth knowing that in some counties Mind do charge you if you need an advocate. 3 years ago I was begging them for help for myself and they wanted £1,000 which I think was for 6 months. I couldn’t pay that amount so was left to my own devices to survive. Just saying encase anyone is thinking of reaching out to them.
