what does this indicate ? high iodine , borderline hypothyroid .

Hi, new to forum .

over ten years I have been told several times borderline hypothyroid.

I feel more and more fatigued mentally and physical , thought hrt would help , made no difference .

urine iodine from biolabs was 213 = more than adequate .Therefore not lacking in iodine . is thyroxine the best route?

tried armour in the past for several months , didn't notice any improvement . too costly to continue privately.

Please any advice, any thyroid supplements to start with ?.

Thank you Annealing.

Welcome to the forum.

Before anyone can say if you would benefit from levothyroxine, we need to see full current thyroid and vitamin results, with reference ranges :

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid antibodies

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Thyroid supplements aren't a good idea, they often include iodine.

Hi SeasideSusie,

results from dr today , from results doesn't believe I am borderline under active thyroid , can't explain my ongoing fatigue , apathy . Suggested talking therapy , however I know i am not suffering with depression. I feel a switch has been flicked off mentally and physically symptoms worsening over decades . Hope it makes so sense to you.

Thank you .

These results suggest possible sub clinical hypothyroid

Were tests done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water

Suggest

Retest thyroid antibodies

If antibodies still negative get thyroid ultrasound scan of thyroid

Thank you , I think I will go for the scan first , as cost is not much more than the private blood tests and also to clear up if any chance of damage to thyroid.

Hi SlowDragon, Just to let you know , I went for thyroid scan, result = ''geneal appearance of thyroid is suggestive of the possibility of mild thyroiditis. Few reactive cervical lymph nodes are identified.'' he said quite common amongst patients,my thyroid is inflamed indicating it is struggling to reach a balanced level. He suggested full panel of blood tests from his dr colleague . Spoke with Dr he read through my previous blood tests [5yrs] said no to further blood tests as will show the same results ,he said mild underactive thyroid is a symptom , I mentioned adrenals struggling , he said may be the case , struggling adrenals can show up as gastric problems , athritis , thyroid etc . Suggested losing some weight, no stress and excercise more .........

Really glad I had scan it has put my mind at ease ,and given clarity of no major damage / issue with thyroid .Bloods alone would have had me going around in circles for even longer .

I am going back to trying to help my adrenals which seem to be the impact on my thyroid [ previous years Dr Peatfield and another private dr suggested adrenal sups and cortisol cream to support adrenals ,from memory didn't help.] I will research further ,as I need to stop this getting any worse.

Thanks again for your help.

Well your results suggest you are hypothyroid, but NHS won’t treat

ALWAYS test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water

Down to you to do FULL thyroid and vitamin testing annually …Blue Horizon test includes cortisol

Maintaining OPTIMAL vitamin levels by supplementing

Vitamin D at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol maybe better

Folate and ferritin at least half way through range

Serum B12 at least over 500

Active B12 at least over 70

Test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 via Monitor My Health perhaps once or twice each year

Come back with new post once you get next results

BLOOD RESULTS 29.11.21.=TSH 3.64 mu/L REF 0.27-4.20....... FT4 11.2pmo/l REF 10.80-25.50 ......

In some countries you would be diagnosed hypothyroid when your TSH goes over 3. Your FT4 is so close to the bottom of the range there really is no question; however, your GP's hands are tied with those results.

VIT D 73 nmo/L REF 50.00-174.00 [ JULY 202I =vit D =102 ] does fluctuate each test...

How much are you supplementing?

We will all have lower Vit D levels in the winter because we can't make it naturally during the winter months. When supplementing we may need to take more in the winter than in the summer.

The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L, with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health mentioning a study which recommends over 125nmol/L.

Hi SeasideSusie,Agree, I realise Gp has limited powers when following their range of bloodwork numbers.

Vitd3 k2 taking 0.8ml once a week , nutri oil based via pipette.

Saw Dr Barry Peatfield back in 2014 his genova test showed my

urine T3 =1108 REF 592-1850....

urine T4 =216 REF 347-1994..... His comments ''very poor T4 production, mid range T3 probably means your receptor uptake is weak .

Thank you for your help.

Vitd3 k2 taking 0.8ml once a week , nutri oil based via pipette.

So what is that giving you in iu per weekly serving?

3 drops = 1,000iu

If I were you I'd do a new full thyroid/vitamin panel to get up to date nutrient levels as well as FT3 tested with the thyroid panel.
