This paper shows that in AIT (autoimmune thyroiditis) The gut microflora are different from health and that some more harmful organisms are at higher levels, This therefore relates Hashimoto's and other thyroiditis to microbial load.

Yes it'd be excellent to get Prof Tim Spector involved with this, and later.. thyroid diagnosis and treatment.

diogenes are you in contact with him? He wants to use the Zoe app for other things as well as covid, and can generate a huge number of patient responses. It could be very powerful

Have not read every word but it does seem to confirm the healthy gut/diet link discussed here on a regular basis.

Must dig out my results from the British Gut Project I did with Tim a few years back ! Having moved countries the bacteria will have changed.

Having had gut TB followed later by Crohns in the 70's I am sure/know/feel the Hashimotos diagnosis was/is connected. Everything seems connected to our gut and its inhabitants - (weighing around a kilo I believe ! )

Thank you for posting diogenes ... really interesting research. Gut issues increasing globally along with thyroid illness. It would be interesting to map IBD - Inflammatory Bowel Disease - with Thyroid disease globally to see if there's a match ....

I should say that I am quite determined that science should not be an inward looking network using language that no one outside the discipline understands and hugs the findings to their own little clique. I am absolutely in line with Brian Cox, Steven Hawking and many others who insist science is explainable to all (however complicated, leaving out I'm afraid abstruse mathematics. One simply needs the right language to bypass the jargon we as scientists must all use to get a paper published. I really cannot understand why my discipline's first reaction is to act as an exclusive cabal.

This is so interesting - I see a direct correlation between my thyroid and gut issues. If Im reading this correctly it will explain the overgrowth I get (SIBO).

I suffered with bad IBS for years before my Hashimoto's diagnosis.
