Help with my readings

Hello

Just need some advice. I have Hashimotos and am having a bad flair following flu/ pleurisy. I feel super poorly so got my bloods checked via a private GP. I had all vits checked, but am just going to post the key thyroid results here as I’m waiting for a full copy to be sent over.

TSH 0.99 range 0.27- 4.2 (usually between 1 and 2)

T4 23 range 12.0-22.0 (I’m usually around 17-19, never been over range)

T3 at 3.7 ( I usually sit at 4.1) range 3.1-6.8

A couple of weeks ago when tests were done I felt hyperthyroid. High anxiety/ panicky, tremor and feeling like electricity coursing through body but exhausted.

Now I feel very underactive. Cold and very weak with pins and needles, feel inflammation in system, glands seem up etc

I’m being referred for a thyroid scan and then to an endo. I’m guessing I’m not converting given these numbers but I’ve never had this disparity between T4 and T3 so am wondering what is going on??

Any help/ suggestions be gratefully received. Feel quite bizarre- some days seem to pick up only to be plunged down further next day.

Thanks 🙏

The body is protecting itself. The feedback loops try to stop us producing too much t3. If our ft4 levels go higher than our body needs more t4 is converted into rt3 rather than ft3.

I didn’t know this thank you 🙏. Do you think this is a case of sitting this out till the feedback loop settles? I was on 150 mcg Levo but the doctor has said to drop 25mcg on alternate days.

Also, you've just had flu/pleurisy. It's prefectly normal for conversion to be down-graded when one has a bad infection. That is why your FT4 has gone so high - a lot less is being converted to T3. And, being so high, a lot more is being converted to rT3. But, don't worry about that.

All this is to force you to take things easy so that you can recover. When you're fully recovered, things should go back to normal. :)

Thank you greygoose that’s so reassuring to hear. I need that! It’s feeling like I’m on a rollercoaster with the odd ‘better’ day then wham- even worse the next! I’m fortunate I guess as it’s been 2 years since I’ve had it this bad and it’s wobbled me.

Thank you x
