Blood test in the morn six weeks post surgery

Good morning

Had the remainder of my thyroid removed on Sept 23rd and have my first bloods tomorrow. Normally take 125mg levo @6am - should I take it or eat before bloods @8.40 ?

Also I ring surgery for results but have never had a printed copy - can I request printed copies or emailed copies of blood results?

Am seeing consultant who removed thyroid on Friday.

Have been battling with low ferritin for years and no one has put the pieces of the jigsaw together and thought it was interesting how you guys read results and wondered how you got them!

TIA

Nicky

Hello Powl :

OK, do not take your Levothyroxine until after the blood draw.

Do not eat - fast overnight, taking in only water :

It is better to have printed copies of your blood test results and ranges :

The receptionist should be able to arrange this for you :

You are legally entitled to access to your medical records and many surgeries now offer online access.

P.S. Levothyroxine is a storage hormone and you will be fine not having taken it until a few hours later than normal.

You mention historical low ferritin, so ask at the blood draw if they will also run ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D.

You need TSH, Ft4 and Ft3, vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Always test as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Come back with new post once you get results

Members can advise on next steps

Vitamins need to be optimal for levothyroxine to work well
