Not taking meds on morning of blood test?

I am on Armour and am aware that it's best not to take it on the morning of a thyroid blood test. On STTM it refers to T3 being the potential problem. What about TSH? Would it make a difference to the reading if I take or don't take my morning Armour? Thanks in advance :)

It's the FT3 and the FT4 that's the problem with taking your meds before the test. But, TSH doesn't react that quickly, so probably wouldn't change at all. It's the time of day that is important with TSH, and also not eating. :)

Thank you.

Why is not eating important I didn't know that.

TSH drops after eating. Which is one of the reasons it's best to have an early morning test, if you want a low TSH, because you can fast over-night.

Typo alert : *if you want a high TSH*

Oops again! I'm really not on form at the moment.

You're right, I meant a high TSH. Thanks for picking that up. :)

Ah OK thanks. I have always had breakfast so I'll stick with that for consistency.

Well, if your doctor isn't phased by a low TSH, it doesn't matter anyway, does it. :)

My initial question wasnt connected to my GP. On my last test I did take my am medication and so was undecided whether to keep doing that or revert back to not taking it. So it was for my own benefit :)

Thanks for your info as it was really helpful.

Thanks. I usually just don't take.my morning dose and that has been fine so far. My GP doesn't get phased with my TSH being surpressed.

My endo is always arguing with me about low TSH but I simply say the NDT is doing its job then he generally stops arguing. TSH is NOT a thyroid hormone and you should NOT be judged by it.
