Efficacy of opened Armour, will it still be ok when opened originally 2017?

Hello everyone, it was opened 2017 stored in a cool ,dry, dark place, original expiry date 2018 ?

I have switched back to Armour (long story) and used up all my in date pots made by Forest and doing ok -ish, working progress, but I notice a new pot thats arrived is made by Allergan, (they are whiter in colour and firmer, suggesting different fillers) I have know idea if they will behave differently in me as yet, but rather than confuse current monitoring on old version of Armour, I thought I would ask you all if a really old opened pot will have lost any strength even though stored correctly with its original dessicant in the pot

Any thoughts greatly appreciated, regards G.

Gillybean1,

Ooh, that is quite old. Obviously NDT isn’t going to go ‘off’ the day after its expiry but that date is given as a guide for the start of possible deterioration, and having the bottle previously opened risks speeding this process.

You won’t know the suboptimal depth without taking it and you might need to increase your dose quite substantially which might confuse your monitoring . I don’t think I would risk taking it but if you are, then just do it mindfully. The risk will be being under rather than over dosed.

My Armour is made by Allergan. I found it to be T3 potent so had to add some T4 several months back and now am fine.

Hello Radd,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. They do look a little bit darker than i remember......so its possible i 'may' notice a difference. Or i could jump in with the new pot of Allergan and be bouncing off the walls ha ha.

Its odd/interesting that you are finding the Allergan blend more T3 potent than the previous version, i am trying to fathom why that would be.....i suppose its down to the fillers, how we absorb different parts of the mix via different pathways and mechanisms.

Its a heck of a price and i dont like to waste, but then dont want to go backwards with symptoms either.

Every best wish to you, regards ,G

Hello Radd,

I wonder if i may ask you please, what date manufacture are you Allergan Armour tabs. I did start with my pot of unopened Allergan Armour purchased 2019 exp 2022, but as its Allergan im guessing it was manufactured as per leaflet date in 2018, which was change over time approx from Forest.... Wow what a difference, badly too . im 6 days into it and day on day have got worse, dizzy, disorientated , nausea etc. Switch too v v v old opened pot of Forest version today, and feel 'slightly better' 6 hours in.

It got me thinking, that maybe my batch was made back in 2018, around the time there was a shortage of natural ingredient following on from swine-flu, and i wondered if i ordered a newer pot 2020 on say, that i might get a different reaction, hence asking you how old/date of your pot as you seemed to be doing ok apart from adjusting T4 up a bit with extra.

I know one other brand normally brilliant NDT suddenly fell short around 2017 -2018 time due to this shortage of natural product at that time. Substantiated by patients lab test results plummeting for that duration.

Hope you can help , every best wish , G

My pots are 08/2022 & later, and are my first taste of Armour so have no earlier to compare with.

As I said I found them T3 strong, added T4 and am fine. Sorry to hear you are still struggling.

Hello Radd,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. In that case I might stump up for a newer pot of Armour and see if there has been a revert to the old mix. I know it was difficult for all these brands to comply after the swine- flu shortages.

Every best wish to you, G.

I have found that if they are the original colour, then they are OK. They tend to go dark if they are going off, if you see what I mean. I dont see any downside to just trying them, although you may have to up the dose a bit

Most drugs have a expiry date well before they are less effective to cover the manufacturer. Liquids tend to go off faster, especially ABs. Good luck!

Hello Serenfach,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I think they are a little darker than i recall but then they used to say on some sites that colours can vary from unopened pot to pot. So by that i mean i may not be remembering accurately, Im so undermedicated at moment ,i cant remember too clearly what it looked like back in 2017.

Have you actually noted yourself then a difference in potency when the product had aged in colour?

The only pot of opened NDT i had to discard was WP Thyroid, it only had 2 excipients in it, but before I could get through a pot it turned into a brown inseperable sticky clump of tablet, pity because it was such an ageeable product to take. And that was stored correctly too.

I agree with you re the useby dates.

Every best wish to you, regards, G
