I’ve just been given Mercury thyroxine when I normally have Northstar. Is this the same or shall I ask them to change if possible. I’ve had bad experiences changing before .
Mercurypharma?: I’ve just been given Mercury... - Thyroid UK
Mercurypharma?
Not the same .Northstar 25mcg's are TEVA.
Northstar 50mcg and 100mcg are Accord.
So Mercury are a different tablet to any size of Northstar.
Mercury may or may not agree with you , some people are fine with different brands, some notice a slight difference that isn't a problem for them , and some have real problems .. (most often with TEVA brand)
I don't mind Mercury /Accord /Wockhardt, but feel 'bleurgh' on TEVA
Advanz Mercury Pharma levothyroxine is a different formulation to Northstar.
But Northstar is an Own Label Supplier and their product is made by other companies. 50 and 100 microgram tablets are made by Accord. 25 microgram tablets are made by Teva.
We strongly urge members to check at the counter in the pharmacy, if possible. Even asking the person serving to do so. That means any unwanted medicines can go back on the shelf. Once you take it away, it has to be destroyed if returned.
Do you know which products you previously had issues taking? If not, it is difficult to advise returning as you might be just fine on them.
If you are changing, and it is possible, switch while you still have some of your original left so that, if you have problems, you can readily switch back.
My medicines document has all the about information about the products - and links to further information.
helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines
I have created, and try to maintain, a document containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.
