I have just received a couple of blood test results. I would be grateful if I could be advised of optimum levels I should aim for.

Vit D103.3 nmol/L (70-150)

Vit B12 492 ng/L (160-800)

Folic acid 11.4 ug/L >2.7

These test were organised by the NHS endo.

Many thanks

Vit D - the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L, with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health mentioning a study which recommends over 125nmol/L.

B12 - According to an extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:

"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".

"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."

Pg/ml is the same as ng/L.

Folate - at least half way through range. Where a range doesn't have a lower and upper limit then we tend to suggest double figures.
