3 months on- Feeling better than I was

As in the title, after following advice given to me on here, by Seaside Susie and Slow Dragon….i feel much better. Not 100% but getting there I hope!

I managed to get an appointment with a new doctor who agreed to raising the dose of my Levo by 25mcg which is what I had been trying for with no luck… I also commenced on b12 and D3 (although not the doses recommended, when it came to it, they seemed very large and that frightened me a bit) I did a coeliac test which was negative. I think the only thing left for me to do now is go gluten-free…..arrrrrgh!!

So, I just wondered if you could answer a few questions I have please?

My magnesium appears a bit high? (Only took it every other day)

What dose vit K do I need please? (Since last bloods I’m now taking vit D3 1000 IE + K2 100ug with an extra 1000 IU D3)

Made a mistake when buying vit B complex (Vegaero) as they have folic acid not folate. Will this be ok until I order my next pot? I am also taking B12 sublingual.

I have thought I would do bloods again in 3 months and then, depending on how I feel, maybe ask the doc for another 25mcg of levo…what do you think?

I’ll now try to post my blood results as photos, sorry many of them will be irrelevant….

Thank you for your past help, and in advance for any further help you may be able to give me….

I can't see a magnesium result. What is it?

I also commenced on b12 and D3 (although not the doses recommended, when it came to it, they seemed very large and that frightened me a bit)

So what doses are you taking?

What dose vit K do I need please? (Since last bloods I’m now taking vit D3 1000 IE + K2 100ug with an extra 1000 IU D3)

For Vit K2-MK7 90-100mcg is recommended for up to 10,000iu D3 so you don't need any more K2.

Made a mistake when buying vit B complex (Vegaero) as they have folic acid not folate. Will this be ok until I order my next pot?

The reason we recommend methylfolate is because folic acid has to be converted by our bodies to folate and not everyone can do that, also it's one less job for our bodies to do on top of everything else hypothyroidism brings.

I would finish the Vegavero B Complex and buy one with methylfolate next time (avoid any that contain Vit C as it can keep the body from using the B12 the B complex contains, they need to be taken 2 hours apart).

I have thought I would do bloods again in 3 months and then, depending on how I feel, maybe ask the doc for another 25mcg of levo…what do you think?

If your FT4 remains high you may not get an increase in your Levo as it may take it over range. But just see what your results are like next time and go from there.

Thank you for your reply Susie… I could only attach one photo hence magnesium not showing..It is 1.01 (0.66- 0.99) do you think I should maybe take it every 3rd day?

Vit D I was taking 1000 and 2000 on alternate days.

Vit b12 was taking 1000 every day. I know you said to take more but I’m a bit of a whimp when it comes to taking meds and just kept looking at them all thinking …that’s a whole lotta meds!!

I’m getting better at it though and just don’t know where I’d be now if I hadn’t found this group and had the fantastic input I did…

I don’t think I’d have got to see a gp if it wasn’t for your suggestions never mind get my doseage change!

The reason I wondered about a further increase in Levo, if the optimum levels of vitamins don’t make me feel 100% is that, I wondered if my t3 could do to be higher? I know it might be another battle to start but do you think the t3 could do to be a bit higher?

Thanks again.

You can always add a picture to a reply in the thread, one picture per reply by clicking on the last icon in the row below the message box, the rectangle with the mountains and sun inside.

Serum magnesium testing is unreliable, personally I don't take any notice of the magnesium result. If you are worried, a red cell magnesium test is the better test.

As for Vit D, as we are now into winter and we can't make Vit D naturally from the sun then the amount you are taking is more or less a maintenance dose for someone with a decent level already. I would be inclined to go to at least 2,000iu D3 daily because you are a long way from the recommended level. Retest Vit D in April to see what you have achieved by then then reassess dose.

Your thyroid results show FT4 to be 99% through range and your FT3 to be 49.73% through range so conversion could be better. Increasing FT4 to get a better FT3 will take your FT4 level over range but your FT3 will still be low in comparison.

What is your ferritin level? A good level is needed for conversion.

Also, supplementing with selenium is said to help conversion.
