Would I benefit from T3 support

I have just received results from my blood tests. Kidney/liver/b12/foliate/iron/diabetic/blood count all normal.

T3 1.4 TSH less than 0.01 T4 20.3

I am on levothyroxine 150mg for 30 years.

I am told thyroid is normal but I’m sure the T3 is Low , but is it very Low?

Would I benefit from T3 support?

I have requested an Endo appointment

Can you please add the reference ranges that came with your results. Ranges vary from lab to lab so we need your lab's ranges to be able to interpret your results.

Also, is that T3 test Total T3 or Free T3? If Total T3 it's not a particularly useful test, we need to see the Free T3 alongside the Free T4 to know how well, or not, you convert.

Please add actual results and ranges for

Folate, ferritin and, B12 and vitamin D

Reading your profile….did you have RAI or thyroidectomy for Graves’ disease

Or was this diet another misdiagnosed Hashimoto’s not Graves’ disease

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Do you always get same brand at each prescription

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis) or after Graves’ disease

Low vitamin levels common as we get older too

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s.

Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s and Graves’ disease

Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too

Important all vitamins are OPTIMAL for good conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

Also need to be optimal BEFORE considering trial on levothyroxine plus T3 or NDT

Getting coeliac blood test done too BEFORE trailing absolutely strictly gluten free diet recommended before starting on NDT or T3

Hi dearg I have been on thyroxine since 1984, I was 42 when I was diagnosed, I was on 0.1 micro gram a day till I was 77, then it was reduced to 0.75 a day because I had palpitations, I have put on over two stone in the two years. I have never had a blood test for T 3 . But have always felt tired. I have other autoimmune problems, sorry I can’t help with T3 .
