The consensus advice was to ask the Endo to provide T3 to help lower my cholesterol. Well today I met my Endo (face to face) and she provided these facts;
1. TSH not T3 is associated with LDL.
2. Selenium helps T3 conversion but since I’ve had a total Throidectomy, selenium will not benefit me.
3. As for the pins and needles sensations in my hands, sugar levels cannot be impacting my nerves causing neuropathy because my A1c stays in 5.2-5.3 range.
Internet says LDL is connected to T3 levels.

Did she say selenium wouldn’t help? Because 80% of conversion of T4 to T3 takes place outside of the thyroid—in your liver, in your gut. Selenium might well help!
And TSH, well. Let’s just say you’re right and she’s wrong!
It’s hard to say what’s causing the pins and needles sensations (just checking—you aren’t taking ultra high doses of Vit B6 or anything?) but I really don’t think she should be ruling anything out—what does she suggest is causing it??
I’m really rethinking my choice of Endos. I’m no doctor but can every internet reference on T3 conversion be wrong? She is suggesting that I might have fibromyalgia.
I’m finding it fairly simple to self source T3 and not too great a cost… I know many on here just top up their meds and never tell their Endo… I’m liking having my T3 over 6. It’s made a big difference to me if not making everything perfect. Just some thoughts!
I’m in the U.K. I found it by googling to be honest so can’t vouch for it but am happy enough with it. Perhaps if you post separately with US T3 suppliers? in the heading people might share privately.
Hi leil, Im thyroid-less as well and I take a combo of T3/T4 and it has not lowered my massive cholesterol levels that actually gotten worse since my thyroidectomy and NO Endo’s I have met (7) in the past 5 years sees a connection between thyroid levels and cholesterol… although I can’t blame all of my butter making on thyroid its also genetics for me.
I also developed small fiber neuropathy (burning) skin sensation after thyroidectomy and this usually attacks the tops of my feet and Im 100% convinced this is hormone related since I never in my life had this issue and my sugar levels have always been good… again they can’t fix it and Im screwed with burning skin that can be so bad at times that I can’t wear shoes and forget sock (not happening) occasionally I get tingling in hands but not often.
Find another Endo and don’t tell them you want to try T3 to see if it lowers your cholesterol this thought process will not work with these monsters and you will walk away empty handed (they treat you like your a drug attic looking for a T3 fix) tell the Endo Im without a thyroid and I would like to try T4/T3 combo instead of just T4 and don’t take no for and answer.
Yes to everything you’ve stated. What is also bothersome is the Endo acts like you are the first person with these symptoms. This creates mental issues because you’re wondering if you aren’t crazy.
I’m with you! I have gone through 2 Endo’s because they would not listen to me. I don’t have a thyroid either. I went to see an ENT for unrelated issues and while I was there I asked how he could help my thyroid disorder? Wow, he has been a God send. He not only listens to me, but he allows me flexibility to take my T3/T4 meds to suit me! We got my numbers improved and I feel better! It took about 7 months to work it out. My cholesterol went from 210 to 162! I pray that you and others will find the right fit for you. I’ve been there for 18years.
