B complex; which one?

Noelnoel profile image

I take ígennus B complex, it’s been recommended on here many times and it’s does the job but I think I read somewhere that it contains something that might inhibit something else. Apologies for the vagueness. What’s the alternative please because I’m almost finished the tub. I sometimes take an excellent one by metabolics but it’s expensive

Thanks all

Igennus Super B contains Vit C and this can keep the body from using B12, they should be taken 2 hours apart - see slide 3 here:

webmd.com/vitamins-and-supp...

After trying a few different ones, my choice is Thorne Basic B. I don't know how it compares to Metabolics price wise (I used that at one time and found it expensive but no better than Thorne Basic B).

Ah, that’s it. I remember now! Thank you

Thank you also for the link, it’s really interesting but a lot to remember, particularly, if like me you have to take lots of supplements. Somehow, there doesn’t seem enough time in the day

I take:

B complex

Zinc

Vit D3 with K2

Iron

Acerola

Magnesium

Metavive

Adrenavive

Beef liver

Any tips on how to manage the schedule of when to take them?!! I get in such a muddle sometimes …

Certainly keep iron 2 hours away from all the other supplements except for the Acerola, you can take that with your iron as Vit C aids absorption of iron. If it's the powder form you can just drink it throughout the day which is what I do.

When do you take the Metavive? Let's start with that and work the supplements around it.

Really? That’s so good of you

Ok, well I take metavive and Adrenavive together with breakfast and because I’m such a poor sleeper depending on what time I wake, is the time I take them. This is anywhere between 6.30 and 9.30

I take my second dose of both the above around 2pm

I should add that at the moment because I’m trying to address candida issues I take half a teaspoon of bicarbonate with water before anything

What time is breakfast and lunch?

Noelnoel profile image
Noelnoel

Breakfast would be between 7-10am

Lunch 11.30- 2

Apologies if it’s complicated but breakfast and lunch is dictated by whatever time I wake. I usually am awake well before 9.30 and so most days

Breakfast 7.30-9

Lunch 11.30 - 1

It's difficult without exact times so I'm going to suggest some times, you will need to adjust the timing if necessary.

But I have to say that I don't know if taking Metavive with breakfast is the right thing to do, if you are using is as a "thyroid medication" then the general advice is to take it one hour before or two hours after food so that absorption is not affected.

I also don't know if it's a good idea to take beef liver as well as iron, hopefully you are doing regular iron panels to keep an eye on your serum iron and transferrin saturation % levels to ensure you are not going too high.

It's hard to fit the beef liver in because it contains iron plus other vitamins but I have put it in at the same time as the iron despite iron supposed to be taken 2 hours away from other supplements, I can't guarantee but I'm thinking as beef liver contains mostly iron then hopefully they will be fine together.

Any particular reason for the zinc? Have you tested zinc and copper? They should be in balance and we Hypos tend to have one high and the other low, so testing to see what, and if, we need to supplement is sensible.

Iron and Vit C can be taken together.

Zinc and magnesium should be taken apart from each other.

7.30am - Metavive (take as soon as you wake up, leave one hour until breakfast)

8.30am - Breakfast, Adrenavive, B Complex, Vit D3 with K2 (include some dietary fat if this is not a soft gel or oral spray)

12.30pm - Lunch, Adrenavive

2.30pm - Metavive

4.30pm onwards - Evening meal, zinc

6.30pm or 2 hours after zinc - beef liver, iron and acerola

Bedtime or 2 hours after iron - magnesium

See what you think of that.

magnesium is supposed to give energy, so bedtime?!

Auraelya

magnesium is supposed to give energy, so bedtime?!

There are different types of magnesium, each with different roles so one should look into them and decide which is the right one. But magnesium is commonly recommended to help relaxation and sleep so best taken in the evening.

amerisleep.com/blog/magnesi...

One healthy, natural solution to getting better sleep is to incorporate the recommended dose of magnesium, a mineral found in the body and in many foods, into your diet. Magnesium, along with its myriad of other health benefits, can help you fall asleep deeper and quicker, leaving you more rejuvenated for the day ahead.

*

Many people with a magnesium deficiency suffer from insomnia. Women especially are prone to low levels of magnesium.

Several studies have shown that increasing your magnesium intake improves your sleep performance.

Magnesium effectively reduced insomnia among elderly adults ..... When study participants added magnesium supplements to their diets, they experienced longer sleep times, fewer early morning wakings, and better sleep efficiency (the amount of time spent in bed compared to the amount of time asleep).

*

healthline.com/nutrition/be...

In fact, magnesium supplements are sometimes used to treat sleep disorders, improve sleep quality, and reduce sleep latency — which is how long it takes you to fall asleep

*

swolverine.com/blogs/blog/b...

Magnesium has proven to be one of the best supplements for sleep.

*

Studies have shown that magnesium supplements have been linked to numerous health benefits, including the ability to fight inflammation, improving immunity health, relieving constipation, improving sleep quality, and lowering blood pressure.

*

Magnesium deficiencies have been linked to those that have less quality sleep, shorter sleep time, and decreased melatonin concentration. As you age, magnesium levels decline, putting you at major risk for magnesium deficiency. A 2012 study showed that 500 mg of magnesium taken daily for 8 weeks, significantly improved sleep time, sleep efficiency, and enhanced REM

*

If you’re having trouble sleeping, there are several forms of magnesium to choose from. All forms of magnesium will help in some capacity with regulating GABA to help achieve restful sleep, as well as increasing serum blood levels of magnesium. However, some forms of magnesium are better than others when it comes to sleep and sleep quality.

*

Without question, magnesium glycinate is the best form of magnesium for sleep.

Dr. Umeda recommends taking the supplement about 30 minutes before bedtime. And don't take more than the recommended amount. More, won't help you sleep better, but it may cause stomach upset. While magnesium might improve your slumber, it's no substitute for a good sleep routine, Dr. Umeda says. Magnesium Glycinate can improve the quality of sleep but ALL the other types are for OTHER situations, see citrate, treonate, etc etc

No idea who Dr Umeda is but I don't personally need any help about magnesium supplements.

I have plenty of links about what each type of magnesium is for, so I am well aware of that, which I pass on to members regularly.

Can’t thank you enough SeasideSusie, that is absolutely do-able and makes such sense

My brain is scrambled at the moment and I’m not thinking straight so I’ll write it down and keep it beside my little wicker basket where I keep my supplements - at least those that don’t need to be refrigerated

The beef liver is occasional rather than frequent and I intend stopping it once the tub is finished. As for zinc, goodness only knows why I started taking it. I can’t exactly remember! Again though, I take less than the recommended dose and once the bottle’s finished will discontinue it

With regard to metavive, me taking it with food might explain why I feel it isn’t working at the moment. I wonder …?

Thank you again for being so kind. Perhaps I’ll drop you a line in a couple of weeks because I anticipate my new regimen being liberating!

I've not taken Metavive so I don't know what the instructions are, maybe they do say it should be taken with food 🤷‍♀️ I've just gone with the normal advice for general thyroid medication of taking it away from food. Anyway, experiment and see what happens 😊

Yes, do post as to how you're getting on, and you're very welcome.

Can I just say: you seem to have a very together head. I can’t remember what that’s like!

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply to Noelnoel

Some days are better than others, but at the moment I think I've found my sweet spot where thyroid is concerned so it does help.

On the days when I put the kitchen scales in the fridge and the milk in the cupboard and forget what I've gone into the other room for, well that's another matter 🤣

Apologies SeasideSusie but on starting my new routine this morning I realise I forgot to mention the selenium I take. Unless the Thorne basic b that I’ve ordered contains it …

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply to Noelnoel

Noelnoel

No, Thorne Basic B only contains B vitamins, it doesn't include selenium.

You could take the selenium at lunchtime with the Adrenavive.

I can completely relate to that

I have taken many different vitamins over the years re my thyroid. But the only one that had any noticeable effect was Orovite tablets. I don't just simply mean simply "noticeable", I actually mean utterly fantastic!

The occasion was following my partial thyroidectomy in 2005/6, when the remainder of my thyroid refused to restart and I was on the point of being diagnosed for levothyroxine. Within just a day or so I transformed from hardly being able to move, to thinking I could run the marathon in record time.

If you take any be aware that there is no need to take any more if you have not improved within a couple of weeks. In that case Orovite is the wrong product to improve your health.

Hello Panda321 and thank you for your suggestion

I’ve looked up Orovite but can’t work out what’s good about them. As far as I can find it doesn’t give the quantities of the B and C vitamins and seems to contain a lot of “additives”. Are you sure you’ve given me the right name?
