NDT Change Over HELP!

I imagine a lot of people will be in the same boat if they have been on Nature-Throid. I need to change to a different brand (due to it being still discontinued) and very concerned about how this will effect me as I seem to be extremely sensitive to any changes in medications. I am thinking of purchasing Armour and would like some guidance on how to make the change over. I have two months of Nature-Throid left and thought of maybe taking Armour one day then Nature-Throid the next etc. Is this the best way or just make the switch all in one go? Any advise on what other people have done would be really helpful. Many thanks.

I would look on the websites of both brands to see what declared T4 and T3 content is and use that as a guide to equivalence.

I’m in the same boat Shilling11. I’ve bought some Armour and I’m toying with the idea of maybe taking a bit of each as part of my daily dose in the weeks leading up to the changeover. I’ve no idea if that’s a good idea—mixing it up—but figured maybe it would help my body get used to the switch.

In terms of equivalency of dosage, they’re exactly the same—a grain is 38mcg T4 and 9mcg T3. But the excipients—the fillers in the tablets—are slightly different, so that’s the thing which might effect how well we get on with it.

I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

Hi, Jazzw Thank you for you message. What a nightmare! My gut feeling is to gradually switch. Who knows if this the best way!

shilling11,

I recently had a enforced switch from WPThyroid to Armour. I just switched one med for the other & waited 😁.

My experience has been Armour is more T3 potent so I have since reduced NDT & added some Levo. All good & no adverse effects.

I had to switch to NP thyroid when Naturethroid became unavailable, and I did it gradually, and it was fine. But since I’ve been on NP full time, I’ve been feeling terrible. So I had a standby supply of Thiroid, from Thailand, just in case. Well, one day I stopped NP cold turkey, and started on Thiroid. The next day I felt great, no tiredness, muscle pain, nerve pain that I had on NP. Thiroid is now off the market, but I have 1000 pills, so it will be a while before I need to find an alternative. Sorry for the ramble, I think switching over gradually is probably best, unless you need to get off the first med.

Morning, I see that you are in the same situation I found myself in this spring regarding NT and had to return to Armour. I dont find it as effective but for me, its certainly a lot better than being on synthetic medication. I'm into my 13th year after being diagnosed with hashimoto's and its been a hell of a journey both in health and education. I have found that by taking armour at night seems to work better for me but I also follow a fasting and feasting way of eating to ensure I have a reasonable empty stomach by then.

I will be happy to talk with you on this if you wish and I understand you can message me.
