More students hoping to train as doctors

Sadly I am not sure that we will get any improvement as a result .

Can anyone out there give me some hope ?

I recently took part in a zoom meeting with medical students who wanted to learn about thyroid conditions from a patient perspective and have nothing but admiration for their tutor and the medical students themselves. I posted about this afterwards. If future recruits are like them; the future is looking optimistic for those with thyroid symptoms.

I got a very young doctor who was about to fully qualify at my surgery in passing she noticed my suppressed TSH in my last blood tests and was alarmed so I explained I took NDT and it was normal to have a suppressed TSH because the thyroid hormones mere being fully replaced so the pituitary did not need to signal for more to be made via TSH. She was very intrigued and I explained a bit more about my DIO2 polymorphism for poor T4 to T3 conversion. I assured her I did not feel in the slightest hyperthyroid and that I had had serious bouts of it before being treated and it was extremely unpleasant. She wanted to know where I got it - internet tho I’d rather it was prescribed on NHS - she was fascinated to know as much as she could in the space of a consultation, she made no judgement of my choice and said listening to me she thought I knew far more about it than she did! I do hope she keeps an open mind like that and seeks for good research out there to inform her opinion and practice. My chat with her gave me considerable hope for the future and that the bad attitude towards patients who decide to take control of their health because current protocols gave failed them might change.

I’m feeling better reading that after being very depressed about a lot of recent posts on this forum re TSH suppression. My own gp is trying to lower mine to 50 mcg of T4 I had TT for cancer 5yrs ago snd am very scared at present. So far I have held her/them (gp!s) off in the practice from doing so

My last blood test (taken when in for other reason was TSH 0.04. T 4 12..1. Range 12-24

after I had dropped T3. 6 weeks ago as I have lost access to any supply .

Coping with symptoms as prior to enjoying some quality of life for last 3 or so years .
