Shaws, this is Dr. Rouzier's practice site. hormonedoctor.com/ He is in Palm Springs, Calif. an expensive little enclave to say the least. It is interesting to me that they say you only need one visit and the rest can be done by phone. Thanks for the find. PR

I've been thinking for a long time that a lot of dementia problems might be solved by prescribing T3!! But according to doctors you don't need it as you get older!! I think the opposite, you need MORE!!

well said Glynisrose.

My mum had Alzheimer's at an early age (50!!!) so did my grandmother.

I went to visit my dad last month and I was trolling through all the medical records he had kept (he did not keep everything but a few things anyway).

I found some blood test results they did for her at an 'Alzheimer's specialist centre' where she was admitted to give my dad a 'break' as he was looking after her full time round the clock to the day she died!

Anyway, her vitamin B12 was ROCK BOTTOM, her TSH within normal range BUT her fT3 extremely low!!!

Did anyone give her any treatment for this???? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I am 'furious' inside myself, but I don't let it 'eat at me' as I did not know anything 'back then', but thankfully I know enough now to stop myself from having the same fate and help my son too.

I am on T3 only and I make sure NOBODY lowers my dose below to what I need, I am also on high doses of B12 now as I have pernicious anaemia, probably my mum too had pernicious anaemia, they did not test to see this, they did not even give her any B12 :(

I feel the same about my poor mother and it does upset me so much. She obviously had a thyroid problem and was never treated for it. I was ignorant then and couldn't help her but the same thing will never happen to me!! Mainly because I found this wonderful site.

My gran was also told she had dementia, but it was found to be low b 12. Injections halted the decline, but could not reverse it. Once the brain cells had gone, they were not replaced.......

sorry G :(

Apparently T3 is good for heart problems too.

Would you suppliment Iodine without having a test done first, could problems arise if your suppliment and your not low?

I ask because my doc is very reluctant to do ANY form of blood testing unless completely necessary so trying to get her to do an iodine test will be like pulling hens teeth.

You can incorporate iodine through food without supplementing

pettals, no I have not, most of my treatment has been self directed. Twenty-five years ago I went thru 7 MD's and 1 endo before I came out of the end of the tunnel. A couple of years ago, for various reasons, I decided it was time to find an endocrine coach. I see an NMD, Naturopathic Doctor, in Ariz.. He gives me 'intelligent conversation' something we all know is so very hard to find. PR

pettals, sorry to take so long replying. Yes I'm in the USA. We had a little storm roll thru yesterday and I lost power for 21 hours.

Regarding treatment, each one of us is different. You are doing a lot of reading and probably have a good idea what you need.

The problem is always finding a doc to work with. Keep working at it, don't give up. PR

pettals, what worked for me was adequate NDT, now 4 gr., ( I start supressing my TSH at only 1 gr., I apparently have some thyroid resistance),

20 mg. HC and 20 mg. DHEA, and a handful of supps. I've modified my diet although I'm not a strict paleo diet. If I could just get 'consistent exercise' worked out I'd be happy. Merry Xmas to you also. PR

hubby takes dhea but apparently it's a class something drug - who cares if it helps! :)

PS I would love to send you a new 'e' for xmas sweety, as your 'e' seems to misbehave! J xx

btw Pettals, don't worry about remembering to save your great links - they're here for all to access - thank you.
