Anyone successfully switch from T4T3 to strictly T3?

Looking for anecdotal info re: T4T3 to T3 only?

Drs say I absorb T4, etc…. but somehow feel better on T3 alone…

Anyone on T3 alone & pleased with the outcome?

Thx!!!

For me, it's the only way to go. Levo (T4) made me feel bad, I just can't tolerate it. I've tried, several times, but I'm much, much better on T3 only. :)

Thank you! I am trying to switch over!My understanding is 25mg of cytomel/liothyrione is equivalent to 100mcg levothyroxine.

Appreciate your reply!

Many patients do better on T3 alone. It’s the most important hormone. Split your doses evenly throughout the day and one at bedtime is good too to follow your natural circadian rhythm.

I can't tolerate levothyroxine and was overmedicated on a combination with Liothyronine so switched to liothyronine only and told the endo at my next appointment. I agreed to give levothyroxine another go last year and was ill with it. I'll only take liothyronine now.

Did your endocrinologist investigated reasons for not tolerating Levothyroxine ?What were you symptoms when you were overmedicated ?? Thanks

No, they didn't. One suspected gluten as a filler.

Symptoms of overmedication were mainly racing heart and huge anxiety.

great to hear… T3 only caused no heart anomaly… just the overmedication of both…

Thank you! I am & hoping to continue doing the same. When on T3 only…. is your TSH higher than when overmedicated with the combo?Assume your T3 level is within range & T4 is non existent? How does that work with your labs & endo after switching to T3 only?!?!

I was on 75mcg levo & 20 mcg liothyrione…

now trying a n initial total of 25 mcg liothyrione only ( am, noon & afternoon).

No idea if this will be enough without any levothyroxine.

Thx for your help & invaluable experience.

TSH is in range and I think should be about the same. FT4 is suppressed. Endos are mostly ok with it, although it does make it harder for them to consider the most appropriate dose (that they then discuss with me - they're good that way :) ).

I was on 100 mcg T4 then 20 mcg T3 was introduced. Within 2 weeks I was hyper. I went down to 20 mcg T3 only and was fine for a few years. The dose was increased to 30 mcg (10 mcg three times a day) then earlier this year it went up to 40 but I've reduced it to 35 (15-10-10, which is a pain to cut).

Good luck! Just be aware of how you feel. If you're unusually anxious or tearful, it could be your meds.

PS… I also feel happier on T3 only … which is so without scientific merit but feel less bloated & “ weighted down”?!!!I cannot explain it…

That is so enlightening! I will see if i can go without the T4. I have had anxiety issues… so maybe stopping T4 & just going with the T3 will help! So… stopping T4 helped w anxiety as well as keeping an eye on amount of T3 daily? Is that correct?

I am so grateful for your sharing
